Hi, i would be very grateful for your help. it all started when i updated my msn to msn+. I scanned my computer after on ad-aware and found 130+ critical objects on it. i tried to delete them but the ad-aware stalled when the delete bar came up. It had changed my homepage, i was getting pop up menus, also added unwanted programmes on my desktop and a new tool bar. Thanks. Joe

Thats because MSN plus is loaded down with crapware. Go to Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it.
Update your Norton, then run a virus scan in safe mode
Download Stinger
Run this in Safe mode also

Download and install Spybot S&D and Adaware SE.

Adaware

Spybot

1. Downloaded and Install Spybot S&D, accepting the Default Settings

2. In the Menu Bar at the top of the Spybot window you will see 'Mode'. Make certain that 'default mode' has a check mark beside it.

3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D

4. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ then download and install the Updates.

5. Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’

6. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ entries bold 'Black' entries and ‘GREEN’ entries in the window

7. Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.

8. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.

9.REBOOT to complete the scan and clear memory.

10. Do not enable Tea Timer until the log is clean as it will prevent the fix from working.

Scanning With Ad-Aware SE :

1. Download and Install Ad-Aware SE, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan

2.Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

3. Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.

4. Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window

1) In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
*Automatically save log-file
*Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
*Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Under Definitions:
*Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days

2) Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :

Under Driver, Folders & Files:
*Scan Within Archives

Under Select drives & folders to scan -
*choose all hard drives

Under Memory & Registry: all green
*Scan Active Processes
*Scan Registry
*Deep Scan Registry
*Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
*Scan my Hosts file

3) Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

Under Shell Integration:
*Move deleted files to recycle bin

Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

Under Alternate Data Streams:
*Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:
*Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

8. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

9. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found

Run HJT and post another log
Thanks for your help, I did all you requested but when I down loaded and installed Ad-Aware SE. Changed the settings in Ad-Aware SE this made no difference, after finding forty three objects, AD-Aware did not clean them automatically. When I tried to close Ad-Aware it told me I had not selected any, when I did it froze when deleting like before. When I try to access the internet my home page has task bars which I cannot remove and I am still getting pop up menus. Below is the copy you asked for.
Hope you can help
Joe

Thats a cut and paste response that I use about the Adaware.
I should maybe edit it a bit.
You can right click on one bad entry then click "select all"
That will put a check in all of them, then "Fix"

Did Stinger find anything?

You have a download accellerator installed. Did you instal it yourself?
I'm going to reccomend that you uninstall it. Most of those are bogus anyway and are loaded with spyware.
You can do this by going to Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs
Also, I reccomend uninstalling Messenger plus!3. If you don't, you might as well stop here and just deal with an infected computer.

You will need to unhide your hidden files and folders for parts of this fix to work.
Heres How

Run HJT, and place a check next to these entries, if they still exist:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oaliqkjsknp.net/636I6xSZFC0nXSB…0nEmwUa3Ce.html

These next entries are optional. I dont know if they come from the legit Messenger or Messenger 3. Fixing them will not harm your computer. This is entirely up to you.

If you check those and you need them for Messenger or for games, you will get them back when you visit the site they came from

Close ALL windows, including this one, and click on "Fix Checked"

It is important that you now boot into Safe Mode
Heres how:
1. Start Windows, or if it is running, shut Windows down, and then turn off the computer.
2. Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.
3. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
4. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Once in safe mode (It should say "Safe Mode" in all 4 corners of y our screen, and the display will look "funny"

Go to C:\PROGRAM FILES and delete the following folders
FREE DOWNLOADS ACCELERATOR
Messenger Plus! 3

Go to C:\WINDOWS\Application Data and delete these FOLDERS:
This Chic Heck Boob
TRUSTN~1 <= not sure what the full name is of this folder, just make sure this file is in it =>Peak Mags.exe

Run Adaware and Spybot again

Reboot and post another log
Hi, fingers crossed, I think its sorted. I can't thank you enough for your help and support. Right at the beginning I had trouble deleting msn+, it would not let me remove it from the add and remove program, so i put the file in the recycle bin. Even then it would not let me delete the program, but when i rebooted the computer the file wasn't in the bin. I hope it's completely gone! Many thanks. Joe

It looks clean, but is that your full log? There should still be some 09 and 016 entries at the bottom.
I'm guessin what you mean is you just threw the Messgr+ folder in the recycle bin?
lol
Thats not really a good way to remove programs, because it still leaves registry entries. Hopefully this wont cause you any problems in the future

Reboot a couple more times and see if you get any error messages.
