Is this log from booted in "safe" mode, or "normal" mode?

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
(This is the NEW Version 1.3)
Get AdAware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download
(This is the NEW Build 1.05)

Download and install these programs if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

Reboot after running each program.

Then post a new log, booted in "normal" mode.

HI, I did all that you told me to on the last post. I have adaware 1.3 and spybot 1.03….I tried to update it but it won't let me. I logged the last time in normal modLogfile of HijackThis v1.98.2

e and this time also….guess what is back??? LOL LOL
I meant to tell you that I configured adaware and spybot according to the direction on the links. It still doesn't work….will it ever be back to normal or am I just stuck with all of this everyday??? One time gone, next time it is there….does everyone have so much trouble getting rid of this stuff? I use to play around with a 3.1 and I could get in there and take out anything I wanted…but I know you can't do that these days with these machines….gee those were the "good old days".
Would turning off the system restore feature in xp make any difference? Just a thought….wood burning…guess I had better quit thinking. lol
Download Killbox.zip

Extract it from the zip file, but don't run it yet.

Boot in "safe" mode FIRST.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: ADP UrlCatcher Class - {F4E04583-354E-4076-BE7D-ED6A80FD66DA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msbe.dll

Then click "Fix checked", and close Hijack This!

on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msbe.dll

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". In the window that opens up, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". The file should show up in the window. Then repeat the process, this time adding:

C:\Program Files\BullsEye Network\bin\bargains.exe

If that's successful you should have the two files listed. In the same window choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

Let it Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Didn't work….think stopping the backup on windows xp might help? I did exactly what you told me…….
Looks like we've got something runing at startup that reinstalls this malware.

Please run Hijack This!.

Click on "Config" > "Misc Tools", then check both of the boxes under "Generate Startup List Log", then click "Generate Startup List Log". Save the startup list log, and post it in your reply.

Please download Service Filter

Extract it to it's own folder.

on ServiceFilter.vbs. If your antivirus pops up, tell it to allow this script to run.

A text file called POST_THIS will be in the same folder.

Please post the contents of POST_THIS into this thread, along with your "startup list" log.

Do you have a FAX machine internally, or externally connected to that PC?

If not, please attach this file:

c:\windows\zeta.exe

to an email, and send it here. Please put "Tom Coyote" in the email subject line so I'll recognize it.
That file is the root of your problem.

Go to:

Start > Run > type "services.msc", then click OK

Scroll down to the ZESOFT service.

Click it to highlight it, and select: Properties
Select "Service Status" option to "Stop"
Select: "Startup type" set it to "Disabled", click Apply, then OK.

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\program files\bullseye network <— FOLDER

c:\windows\system32\msbe.dll <— file
(should already be deleted - be sure!)

Did I do it right? Did it work???? Looks like it worked to me…but what do I know. LOL LOL
You killed it.

That's the first time I've ever seen that malware reinstalled by a rogue service.

Good job.

I'm sorry it took so long to figure it out.

GOD bless!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Thanks!!!! Your the greatest!! Sorry I picked up such a NASTY one, next time I will try and get a EASY one ( just kidding) lol I must say, that your directions were excellent and very easy to follow…you made this whole mess easier on me because of your knowledge and directions. Thanks again …..Keep looking up! :-) Janet
