Click here to download ServiceFilter, a little script by rand1038 that reveals potential unauthorised running services in your system. Download, unzip and double-click ServiceFilter.vbs (you may need to enable your antivirus program to run the file). This script will create a text file named Post_This.txt in the same folder as the script itself has been saved - copy and paste the contents of Post_This.txt in your next reply here.
The script did not recognize the services listed below. This does not mean that they are a problem. To copy the entire contents of this document for posting: At the top of this window click "Edit" then "Select All" Next click "Edit" again then "Copy" Now right click in the forum post box then click "Paste" ######################################## ServiceFilter 1.1 by rand1038 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version: 5.1.2600 Nov 18, 2004 9:01:05 PM —> Begin Service Listing <— Unknown Service # 1 Service Name: awhost32 Display Name: pcAnywhere Host Service Start Mode: Manual Start Name: LocalSystem Description: "Allows Remote pcAnywhere users to connnect to this … Service Type: Own Process Path: c:\program files\symantec\pcanywhere\awhost32.exe State: Stopped Process ID: 0 Started: False Exit Code: 1077 Accept Pause: False Accept Stop: False Unknown Service #2 Service Name: GhostStartService Display Name: GhostStartService Start Mode: Auto Start Name: LocalSystem Description: Background service to allow Norton Ghost to perform priviledged … Service Type: Own Process Path: c:\progra~1\symantec\norton~1\ghosts~2.exe State: Running Process ID: 344 Started: True Exit Code: 0 Accept Pause: False Accept Stop: True Unknown Service # 3 Service Name: Iomega Activity Disk2 Display Name: Iomega Activity Disk2 Start Mode: Disabled Start Name: LocalSystem Description: … Service Type: Own Process Path: "" State: Stopped Process ID: 0 Started: False Exit Code: 1077 Accept Pause: False Accept Stop: False Unknown Service # 4 Service Name: Iomega App Services Display Name: Iomega App Services Start Mode: Auto Start Name: LocalSystem Description: … Service Type: Own Process Path: "c:\progra~1\iomega\system32\appservices.exe" State: Running Process ID: 360 Started: True Exit Code: 0 Accept Pause: False Accept Stop: True Unknown Service # 5 Service Name: ISEXEng Display Name: ISEXEng Start Mode: Auto Start Name: LocalSystem Description: … Service Type: Own Process Path: c:\windows\system32\angelex.exe State: Stopped Process ID: 0 Started: False Exit Code: 0 Accept Pause: False Accept Stop: False Unknown Service #6 Service Name: SwPrv Display Name: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Start Mode: Manual Start Name: LocalSystem Description: Manages software-based volume shadow copies taken by the Volume Shadow Copy service. Delete the remove.reg file off the desktop.

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
I completed the last list and only had one problem. After rebooting in safe mode, a box came up and said says cannot import-specified file is not a registry script.

Well the log looks clean :D
I keep this thread open for a week
Post back if you need to.

Please read through the ideas and free software listed below that will help to keep your computer clean.
Some of these you may already have installed or may have done already.

Install a firewall.ZoneAlarm FREE

Ensure that an Antivirus is updated weekly and running. You only need one.
AVG antivirus from Grisoft is a very good FREE antivirus program.

Make sure you have the latest critical updates from windows update.

SpywareBlaster will prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 known 'bad' sites into your IE restricted zone so that they cannot install malware on your PC.

Google toolbar has a very good built in popup blocker with a nice search bar. To provide privacy, select disable advanced features when installing.

Check your system for latest virus definitions with an online virus scan every week or two.
TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan

Check your system for latest trojan definitions with an Online trojan scan also every week or two.

And also see this link for additional security information.
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please consider using Firefox
http://texturizer.net/firefox/index.html

Please read this
Glad we could help :D

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:
