[Closed] I don't know where to start

Okay so I have no idea where to start. A friend did all of this for me last time. He installed Hijack This and cleared away the bad stuff. But this time I think he doesn't want to have to do all of that again. So I'm on my own.

My computer is acting very slow and often times doesn't react to what I tell it to do. I'll have to tell it to open a program or files several times before it actually does so. I figure there is something wrong but as I've said I don't understand the log files very well to know what is causing this. Any help at all would be very appreciated.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download avz4.zip from here
  • Save it to your desktop and unzip it to your desktop to a folder named avz4
  • Double click on AVZ.exe to run it.
  • Choose from the menu "File" then "Standard Scripts"
  • Put a check next to item 2: Advanced System Investigation
  • Click Execute selected scripts
  • At the next prompt, click the OK button
  • Let the scan run and click "OK" when the completion prompt pops up
  • Now Close out of the Standard Scripts window, and exit AVZ
  • Navigate to the avz4 folder and locate the folder LOG
  • Inside the LOG folder you will find virusinfo_syscheck.htm and virusinfo_syscheck.zip
  • Attach virusinfo_syscheck.htm to your next reply, along with a fresh HijackThis log
