Hello

I guess I posted wrongly on the open forum some hours ago (and I cannot send MP to an admin/modo to move it) so I put it here again, please remove the other one there

http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?show…indpost&p=77898

I just discovered I got some virus… Apparently I could get rid of some of them but not all (according to some onlive scanners : bat.ftpDownloader) using also Antivir, Adaware and ZA (updated latest versions). I just tried Panda but it made my IE crashed

I followed instruction and here is the log file of HJT (my Win XP is in French).

If you can help this could be great.

Thanks in advance

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

I see two pieces of scumware in the log:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Help] svh0st.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Win32 USB2 Driver] pomedsrv.exe

All instances of those are "bad".

Let's try some free online virus removing tools:

Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Panda Activescan

Etrust Security Advisor

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot after each scan.

After running the scans, post a new log in this thread, and we'll see if anything is left for us to battle. :)
OK I began with Trend

It found at the start (like yesterday) and cleaned (like yesterday, it seems to be reappearing..) Worm_WootBot.AA.

Then he finds but cannot clean Worm_WootBot.ZA on the windows\system32\pomedsrv.exe.

Then I launched etrust, he found two infected files (without being able to clean them)
Virus is Bat.FTMDownloader
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusin…s.aspx?ID=40179

Path for two files is C:\WINDOWS\system32\ c.bat and C:\WINDOWS\system32\o

Then I tried Panda but like yesterday it did not work (my IE crashed just before he suggests to scan some items).

So I'm afraid not a lot of things have changed since my previous post

Could it be that one of the two problematic files are linked to my digital camera?? (I got an error message from the image transfer when I log in Windows.. and the problematic file is regarding USB apparently)

thanks in advance
Please download the latest version of Hijack This!

Links to Hijack This! v 1.98.2:

http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/HijackThis.exe

Please go here to learn how to turn system restore on/off

Then turn system restore OFF.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Help] svh0st.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win32 USB2 Driver] pomedsrv.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Help] svh0st.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Win32 USB2 Driver] pomedsrv.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Win32 USB2 Driver] pomedsrv.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Win32 USB2 Driver] pomedsrv.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [Win32 USB2 Driver] pomedsrv.exe

O16 - DPF: {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} (Shockwave Flash Object) - http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwa…ash/swflash.cab

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\windows\system32\pomedsrv.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\svh0st.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Then turn your system restore back ON and make a new restore point.

Go to:

Start > All programs > Accessories > System utilities > System restore > Create restore point.

Then, please search your machine for all instances of this file:

rundll.exe <— file

And post back all folders it is found in.
Be sure to show hidden files when looking.

:)

These files are probably not related to your camera, but you were most likely infected because of windows vulnerabilities.

Here are links about those worms:

SPYBOT.DL

WOOTBOT.ZA
Thanks I will print that at work and bring the paper at home to do this operation. I followed yout links and I assume "checking" with Hijack This does the same as removing manually bad items in the register. More news soon
OK I could not find the svh0st.exe on my hard disk (but zonealarm does not ask me about it anymore and also not on the other one)

The log looks good now!!!

Your Windows and IE need some of the latest updates you help you prevent future infections.

GOD bless!!!

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP at this time)

I'm using Firefox as much as I can as a browser. For Win XP, I did all security updates (except SP2 as recommanded), I still can see a Windows XP Service Pack 1 install (is it an update of current version??) Thanks a lot for your help :)
From your log file:

Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)

From a log made on my system:

Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)

It appears your windows may be up to date, but I can tell for sure that your IE is lacking.

I'm also fairly certain the update program is smart enough to not let you do the same update twice.
