AVG found a trojan horse healed it and I deleated it from the vault. When I start up it says it is still there but scanned and doesn't find it…….also ran AdAware and Spy Bot not found there either. I tried to look up some info on it but to no avail. I also used other scans online and they don't find it either. My desktop has started to refresh itself at times. This is the message I get from AVG when I start up the computer or disconnect from the internet. Virus Trojanhorse Downloader.Presario.A is found in file C:\System Volume Information\_restore{FDF7E1BD-3514-4652-AODC-09D8FF2520E1}RP118\A0007960.EXE Please run AVG antivirus. I am not a whizz on the computer so if you could help me with this bothersome thing I would be very grateful. Thanks for your time.
Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

This:

C:\System Volume Information\_restore

Tells us that the infection is in your "system restore" area. It cannot be cleaned until you turn system restore OFF.

Please go here:

System Restore

To learn how to turn system restore ON/Off. Then do this:

1. Turn system restore OFF.

2. Run your resident virus scan. It should be able to remove the infection.

3. Turn system restore ON, then reboot.

4. Run your resident virus scan to assure you are "clean".

Then I would suggest you post a Hijack This! log to be sure you're not infected with something else.

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Download HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

Links to Hijack This! v 1.98.2:

http://tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe
http://spywarewarrior.com/files/HijackThis.exe
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/HijackThis.exe

Run it from that folder.

Click "Scan".

DO NOT "FIX" ANYTHING WITH IT YET!!!
FIXING THE WRONG THING COULD RENDER YOUR SYSTEM INOPERABLE!!!

Click "Save log".

Reply to this thread, and "copy/paste" the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the log file into this thread.
:)
I ran the scan both ways and there was nothing found as before. Here is the log.
Glad you know what it all means……;-). Thank you so much for your time and quick response.

Great job!!!

The log only has one minor "defect":

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll (file missing)

Looks like a part of Spybot is missing.

Try to run it. If it won't run, please uninstall Spybot, reboot, then reinstall it.

Have you stopped getting messages from AVG about being "infected"?
Spybot ran just fine. I have stopped getting the AVG message. I don't understand, if I didn't change anything and AVG found nothing then where did the infected file go? Once again thanks so much for your time and quick reply. :D
I'm not sure, but I think that when you turn system restore OFF, then the "restore" files are removed. That would explain why it disappeared.

The only other explanation would be "magic". ;)

I'm glad we could help.

GOD bless!!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP at this time).
