dgosling,

I went through all of the steps. One thing that was a little weird was when I ran Trojan Hunter, it identified a file at C:\WINDOWS\System32\lhgpieoe.exe as a suspicious ASPack - packed file. I found similar files in the System32 directory, but not that one. I also did a search for it and didn't come up with anything. Other than that, everything went well. Here's is my latest log… Thanks for your help!

The log looks clean! Congratulations! How is the computer functioning now? I am concerned about those ASP packed files. I did not see any of those in my System32 folder in XP. I would really appreciate it if you could
1. make a zip file of them (keep them fairly small please)
2. password the zip file and
3. then send it as an attachment to Submissions.

This is how we identify the variants of infections and our developers get an opportunity to make a fix for these awful bugs. We then can concentrate on removing them from your computer. Would really appreciate it - thanks for your assistance for all who come after you
dgosling, I'd be glad to send in the file, but I'm not sure I understand what you want me to do. Do you want a copy of everything in System32? Also. I've never zipped a file so I'm not sure how to do that. Thanks!
Making a zip file in XP is easy because it contains it's own zip program. The files I would like are the ones that are similar to the file identified by Trojan Hunter that say 'ASP packed' file. One or two will be find because they all will contain the same infection if infected.

To zip a file with XP
1. Find the file and highlight it
2. Right-click on the file
3. Choose send to > Compressed file
4. It will automatically zip the file and make a zip file in the same directory as the original file (usually at the bottom of the file list) with the name of the file
5. Find the zip file in the same directory (the icon is a yellow folder with a zipper on it) and open the zip file (there is no chance of infection unless you open the actual file)
6. With the zip file open, right click in the window and choose add password
7. Close zip
8. Click on the email address and in the email put a link to this post (the url) and the password that you have given the file and send it.

I hope this helps. If you can't find the files, just post back with that info.

thanks again
I can't find the files by the names identified by TrojanHunter. I've gone to the location where they're supposed to be, and they're not there. I've tried searching, and nothing comes up. Any suggestions?
It is quite possible that they were deleted during the process you followed earlier. How is your computer behaving. Would you please post a new log HJT log file to this thread to make sure it has stayed clean
