Thank you so much for making this forum available to people like me! I've been trying to fix my computer for weeks, and I'm not sure if I've made any improvements – I may have made things worse. My biggest problem has been that the longer I'm logged on, the harder it is for my pages to load. I will refresh several times – even 10 times – and if I'm lucky, that page will load. Then when I go somewhere else, I have the problem again. I'm also getting a lot of pop ups, which I never used to get before. I have a teenage daughter – who knows what she might have downloaded! Another problem that I'm having I think I created myself when trying to fix the current problem. I do most of my shopping online, and now I can't get to a lot of shopping sites. I will click on a link that will start to open a new window, then just before it pops up, it disappears – as if it were blocked. I've tried clicking and holding the control key, but that's not helping. I think I may have downloaded something designed to keep me from getting more adware, and it's blocking things I don't want blocked. Unfortunately, I can't figure out what it is! I've posted my Hijack This log below. Thanks again!! I so happy that there's hope I will get this thing running again!!

Hi and welcome to the forum. :D

Step # 1

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

REBOOT

Step #2

Please download and run Spybot & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Spybot & Adaware Tutorial

REBOOT

Step # 3

Please do an online scan, 2 would be better as you will need it

Panda http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.
Siggyx,

Thanks for responding so quickly! I really appreciate all of your help. I followed your instructions and everything worked well except for one of the two online virus scan programs (pandasoftware.com). I went to the site, and when I clicked on the program to scan, my computer tried to open a new window and – as with many other programs recently, the window opened for about half a second and then closed. I did not receive an error or anything, but tried several times with the same results. I wasn't sure if I should try running my Norton instead, but I didn't want to try anything different than your instructions.

Below is my new Hijack This log – Thanks again for your help!

You have a ton of viruses in there still so this will take me a bit to get a response to you for the next step. Should be about 20 minutes so hang in there please.
Ok here we go this will take a few more steps probably so lets get out hands dirty.

You may want to print this out if you can to follow.

Please boot to safe mode (tap f8 while bios loads) the scan again with hijackthis and put a check beside these lines and choose FIX

Siggyx,

I followed your instructions. After deleting the files, I looked at the Hijack This log and most were back again. I went through the whole process again, and the same thing happened. Did I do something wrong? I ran the virus scan and it cleaned one virus but didn't find anything else. Here is my latest scan. Thanks!!

I would like you to download and run Trojan Hunter. It is free for 30 days. Let it fix what it finds.

Download Trojan Hunter(trial version).
Next go Hereand download the latest update zip file.
Install Trojan Hunter and make a note of the full path to the folder where it is installed, by default this is
X:\program files\TrojanHunter 3.8 (X is the drive Trojan Hunter is installed on, usually C).
After installation unzip the update file you downloaded to the installation folder you took note of.
Say "Yes to All" when you are asked about replacing files.
You have to completely shut down Trojan Hunter for the new files to be used.
Double click the desktop icon to restart Trojan Hunter, click to continue evaluation.
Click the "Full Scan" button on the upper left.

Then post a new log please.

Looks good :D  How is it running? Any issues?

You can have hijackthis fix this line

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
Siggyx, Everything is working so much better! I downloaded all the programs you suggested. I do have Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Internet Security (which I thought had a firewall) – I'm pretty sure they've always been enabled, but even when I ran full scans in the past few days, the NAV didn't pick up anything at all and I've downloaded all of the updates. It doesn't matter – I'll use the things you suggested. There are just a few quirky things going on, but they aren't too problematic. When I start my computer I get a few error messages. One says it can't find bridge.dll and other can't find w32usb2.exe. Those are both things we deleted, so I'm glad it can't find them, but I'm not sure why it's looking for them! I also get an error when I go to shut down the computer that seems to have to do with my HP printer. I downloaded a patch that was supposed to fix it, but it didn't. I'll have to double check exactly what the error is and submit another post. These are all things I can live with. It's certainly a big improvement over what I had before. Thanks a lot for everything! Melissa
Siggyx,

The error I get with I try to shut off the computer is hpoevm08.exe. I did a google search and tried several of the suggestions, but nothing seems to correct the problem. I have to end the program before the computer will power down. It doesn't seem to be a big deal – certainly nothing I can't live with! I also didn't post a new Hijack This log earlier, and thought you might also want to see that. Thanks for everything!!

Siggyx,

Thanks for your patience… I know mine is wearing thin!! I keep deleting this stuff and running every virus scan I have, but it keeps coming back. I do not have a folder called Internet Optimizer, but I've been searching for the word optimize and optimizer and deleting everything that comes up. I'm just not getting rid of it for some reason. I've also gone into the registry and deleted everything with the filenames that match the one's you've asked me to delete. As soon as I go out of a folder and back again, the files are there! I've searched and deleted all of those files, and I've even searched for portions of the names. I'm deleting everything in all temp folders, and the recycle bin. Nothing seems to get rid of them. It's so frustrating. I have to admit, things are much better than before, but now that I know these things aren't supposed to be there, it bugs me that I can't get rid of them! Here's my latest Hijack This log.
