Most free antivirus software offered online requires a paid subscription for realtime protection. But does anyone know of any free realtime software that is truly free and does not require payment for realtime protection and that can run alongside Windows Defender?

Most free antivirus software offered online requires a paid subscription for realtime protection.
That's actually not true: all of the top free antiviruses, (AVs), come with real-time protection.
If you are using Windows 10, then Windows Defender is a fine AV and should not, (and will not), be run with another one.
Another programme that is excellent and offers free real-time protection is Malwarebytes. You can download it here. That will run happily with Windows Defender.
