HP TouchSmart PC very slow-Moved from Malaware Forum
10 min read
So I was finally able to open my PC! I cleaned the dirty fan. Also freed up lots of hard drive. Right now, I have 62 GB free of 583 GB. I also backed up my HDD as recommended.
Unfortunately, my PC is still making the same loud sound as before. Anything else I can try?
Thanks!

As advised in my reply #7 you need to have around 140GB free on the C: drive.

No mention of this in this thread so had to read your malware thread again, from your reply #28;
Right after working for 5 minutes or so, the computer becomes noisy and then then everything starts crawling.
Can you describe the noise for us.

sounds like drive thrashing to me, so i'd expect this should fix it.

Thanks for the response. Its almost like machines working..and when the machine is switched off, the room becomes absolutely quiet!
Is the noise clunking, grinding, clicking, screeching, ticking or like fans running at full speed as a few examples.
Failing HDD sound here
As terry said HDD "thrashing" due to low storage space is likely and looking at your CrystalDisk screenshot for the internal HDD which shows high temps and a problem with the Reallocated sector count it is highly possible that your HDD is not far off packing in, freeing up the correct amount of space is about all that you can do but be aware that anything to do with bad or reallocated sectors on a HDD is often a sign that it is time to create a back up image or clone the HDD before it pops with the loss of all data on it.
You are welcome btw ![]()
I would describe the sound more as fans running at full speed
Thanks again!
That is exactly what it will be then your fans kicking in to try and cool down the system.
How are you getting on with freeing up the required free storage space.

I thought cleaning the fans would remove the sound? Or did I get that wrong?
Clearing the hdd space will take more time since I need to find more bakup space!
To remove the noise of the fans you will need to remove the cause of the overheating that is making the fan/s work so hard.
As said previously the HDD is also running hot so freeing up the required storage space is but one step of the troubleshooting process.
