For the last 12+ hours or so, I have multiple machines (Vista, Win7) in multiple physical locations that sit there "spinning their wheels" with -nothing- happening, attempting to download updates from Microsoft.
Anyone else experiencing same??

Several other forums where the same question was posted replied:
"... their servers are being blasted>Anniversary Update" (Win10)
"... Win 10 has downloaded this update: http://www.computerw...07-upgrade.html
... there was another update which downloaded and installed without difficulty..."

Seems to me, and you know I know Microsoft probably doesn't care, that Europe and other countries on that side of the pond that are a day ahead of us, should have all their updates processed and cleared before they roll out updates for the rest of the world.
Wouldn't you think that would keep the servers from being blasted and save many from errors because their updates didn't complete.
Of course I don't know what I'm talking about.

"... Of course I don't know what I'm talking about."
Oh yes you do.
... add to that:

Aug 4, 2016 - "Given the massive testing and repeated refinement that brought us Windows 10 Anniversary Update, you’d think the rollout would proceed with few debilitating problems. But you’d be wrong. From common installation problems to minor irritants to significant data destruction, reports of problems are mounting up. You should consider dodging the update until Microsoft irons out the worst difficulties...
Microsoft hasn’t yet delivered a Cumulative Update that installs on all machines, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise that Anniversary Update installs trigger a wide variety of failures, rollbacks, flakey Universal Windows programs, and error codes such as 0x80070020..."
... so it's not just us.

No, it's not just us.
And how many techs does Microsoft have working for them? (might need to pay them more)
And how many updates at least over the last 2 years have we dealt with these crazy problems due to new operating system updates?
create a new windows 7, oh I'd be a happy camper
