Hello

A tech from MS showed me how to unshare a file in OneDrive and left directions. I have tried to unshare a file I had shared with no success. I can give you his directions for you to go over if you like or you may just explain how I unshare a shared file I changed my mind about.

TY

Peter

Hi paws

I enclosed a quote from the link you sent me and thank you for that.

"Select the check box of the shared item, and then tap or click Share on the bar at the top of the page.

Under Shared with, select the permissions you want to change. You can switch a person or group's permissions between editing and only viewing, and you can stop sharing through any links you created."

When I follow the directions and get to share>'share with', the 'share with' is a ghost and does not respond to continue to make any choices.

These are the same directions MS gave me so either i have aproblem or MS does. The tech said Win 10 has nothing to do with it.

TY

Peter

I have not found Onedrive Mobile and PC,  nor Google Drive Mobile  to be very user friendly. I do find Google Drive PC to be fairly straight forward but what good is it if it conflicts with Mobile Google Drive.       Dropbox is only 2 GB.

I hope they make the going a little easier but thank you for contributing  what you did.

Local PC > right click = 'share with' and choices like; stop sharing etc.

The online OneDrive = click on item, then share above and same page as yours but no share options and no link.

I am either numb or these cloud based programs need tweaking. You read the directions and swear they are made for another OS or something.  I cannot connect the dots so will wait till they get it together.

Thank you all.

I must confess that I don't have any use at all for the cloud…. I know many folks find it great and very useful, but for my IT needs I prefer to keep my stuff on my own computers rather than someone elses!

I am seeing why now, paws.

I had a question related to this storage issue. I do have the discs[CD/DVD], flash drives etc. to place photos on but wondered if I could put what I now have in the clouds, into my external drives, one being 2 T and the other 1 T?

I have photos of my family on my phone and if I don't sync with Google they won'rt be backed up but being in the cloud sort of bothers me with all the strange people peeking on the WWW.

I know how to do it but I, importantly, did not want to disturb any of the 'images' I have created of my different operating systems.

I only plug these external drives in when I use them, maybe once a week, to preserve them, so to speak instead of letting them run all the time -I have been doing that for a decade. All my docs are on 2 separate flash drives. Then, I unplug both the USB and AC cables when done imaging .

Thirdly, there is the desktop client, mine being Windows Live.

Fourthly, I could keep them on my pcs as there is ample room with 1 T desk and 650 GB lap.

I know this is subjective but it is a bit confusing at times.

I have about 15 normal  photos and  3 larger files about 3.5 MB and am not concerned about the latter.

I would like to have the dozen family photos on my phone but would not want to sync therefore the family could see them on the phone or PC. I may be suffering from web paranoia  and making a mountain of a molehill but I did not want to disturb images nor lose photos.

If I may, what is your take on this?

Peter    :weee:

Whether in the cloud, on a flash drive, CD or DVD or external hard drive, looking at them or copying them elsewhere is not going to affect them. Not sure why you are concerned about this or maybe I just don't understand your concern.

In my opinion there is no such thing as too many backups of important data you do not want to lose.

I backup to a 3rd internal 2TB hard drive on a weekly basis which include my  OS boot drive plus my D: drive where all my data resides. I also mirror my important data over my internal network to a separate computer. I was uploading it to the cloud then decided I did not want to pay for it so dropped it. I've used Dropbox, Mediafire, Acronis and OneDrive. OneDrive I still use but only for temporary storage when I want to share one or more files with someone. I unshare and delete those files as soon as they have been downloaded.

It is a privacy thing with the family(children) and the cloud.

I don't really know about partitioning and don't want to lose anything on the single hard drive so I use 2 external drives.

Your information has answered what I want to do.

I will use Gallery only in my phone so there is no synchronization with Google  still I have a back up as the same photos are in the PC.

I have a back up of Memo with Samsung as Google backs up most but not this.

With the PC I will continue backing the OS to the 2 external drives and my personal data to the 2 flash drives.

I will have a folder in Pictures or Docs, not sure which, as I think Pictures get erased easily if you mess with photo gallery from Windows Live Essentials which I use for my editing and the mail section which is my email client.

Now, I have my photos in both phone and PC and all else backed up to safe places.

And as you do, I  will use Onedrive or Drive for other files i may need for business etc. to be sent quickly. I keep a copy in a  folder in Outlook.com mail.

Paranoia cones from not knowing enough about pcs and having lost important information.  :adios:

TY for replying

Peter
