can't connect computer to wifi router

 hi ….I an trying to connect an older computer (2002 windows XP) to my router Centurylink**** security type WPA_AES  …I have a netgear wifi usb adapter model WNDA3100v3….  it keeps coming up "wireless network connection, not connected firewalled"  there are 2 "X"s…. over connections but CenturyLink looks fine…..any help?  Thank you….PS  my first computer and laptop work fine…this is 3rd computer.
