is it possible that malware could change p2p save folder such as limewire back in 2008-2010. Say that malware uploaded your personal computer files photos and everything else to the limewire gnutella network. Is that possible. I've heard that malware could make your files abaibale to the hacker not an entire network but this article states different. Is this a little far fetched. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0016-p2p-file-sharing-risks

Hello Trailblazer and welcome to WTT.

Say that malware uploaded your personal computer files photos and everything else to the limewire gnutella network

Although that is a technical possibility, that would be of no interest to the people who run those sites as they are, as the name suggests, "peer-to-peer";  ie, files shared between users and not kept at the source, (can you imagine them really having the resources available to upload and save all files that every user has on their machines?) :)

That said, P2P software itself has the ability to create a direct route into your computer and their quite flimsy security measures are easily circumvented.

As well as that, if your P2P software is not configured correctly you may be sharing more than you realise. Malware writers are these days increasingly exploiting them to spread their infected dross onto your computer and there have been cases where people's address books, passwords, other personal, private and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured P2P applications.

My advice would be to uninstall any such software.

That said, this is a malware removal forum and general questions such as these are not addressed here unless it is to suggest removing such software.

If you have reason to believe that your computer is infected, please read the topic here and follow the instructions.

Well thanks so for much for your advice. So basically malware can't do that? Upload personal files from a persons computer and store them in the limewire share folder?

As I said, I'm not an expert on this and you are in the wrong forum to find that kind of information.

What I previously said still stands. If you share your files with the world-wide community that believes in sharing, (mostly illegal), software you are open to anything.
