I dont use any of them myself but do know of plenty that do.
I know they are not recommended however for those that do use them would it improve their security if they were downloaded into a folder and then the folder scanned for any virus/malware before the film or music was opened. or is that too simplistic a view?
Hi Scudo, We do not encourage advice or recommendations on P2P file sharing, other than in most situations folks should avoid using them and if they have installed them…….. uninstall them!
Our site's terms of use are pretty clear on this…..
here's an extract
•We will not support or allow the discussion of any peer to peer (P2P) applications, except for their removal.
However I will say that there are legal and legitimate uses of P2P filesharing……but a lot of folks use it to try and circumvent copyright and other legal protections, break legally enforceable licensing agreements etc and for these reasons we recommend that folks do not do this and just uninstall any such applications they have on their computers and delete all files downloaded via P2P where the provenance and legality is not 100%.
P2 P file sharing is a major vector for the distribution of malicious code (the bad guys can "seed" the files with malicious code) and a lot of folks would just not know….. until it was too late!
The simple precautions that you mentioned would not provide adequate protections from malicious code present in these files.
The malware fighters on this site who do such an excellent job in helping folks clean their computers, would have their workload halved if folks refrained from downloading files with unproven provenance via P2P……

My apologies for encouraging discussion, it was only after surfing a few posts I noticed that many had P2P on their PCs.
It was only out of interest but fully understand your reasons for not discussing.
