A Real Mystery (Browers, Internet, E-mail?)

I am really lost on this one. If you like mysteries maybe you can help me solve this. Here's the facts: I have cable internet set-up on Wi-Fi to my computers. On my local network I have a Dell OptiPlex 380 (with an AirLink 300 adapter) and a 780 (with a AirLink 150 adapter) both running Windows 7 Ultimate, an iMac, and an Epson printer. Until about 10 days ago everything was running normal - then both OptiPlex's started running very slow internet and e-mail. Internet Explorer on major accounts like bank web-sites downloads so slow the connections stop. E-mail runs but I can't send any attachments in size over 5ms- I should be able to send 20ms ( I get a Norton box that comes up saying the mail didn't send because the connection was interrupted).

It also takes a much longer time to copy a document at the printer.

I know this all sounds like an internet connection or local network problem but my iMac and an HP lap top using the same network work fine. I've run every test I know of and checked with the cable company - everything checks out okay.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Did you just do a Windows Update on the two Windows 7 systems? If so, try doing a System Restore to before then and see if that fixes the problem. If yes then apply the updates one or two at a time to find the one causing the problem, then uninstall and hide it so you don't install it again.

Edit: Check Update history to see what was installed and when.

I did the restore on one machine that solved the problem at first then it reappeared again after I stopped all downloads. I'll try again.

Tried restore again - it was no help - just as slow as before. This is real frustrating

Let's see what's installed and starting when you boot:

Download and install CCleaner from the following link:
CCleaner - Standard

During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.

Click on Tools (ICON) and Select the following BUTTONS to create two (2) text files:

    * Uninstall > Save to text file (install) – bottom right corner of app window
    * Startup > Save to text file (startup)

Locate and open each saved file in the ‘Documents’ FOLDER:

    * Copy and paste the contents of each file into your next post (2 files).

I hope the new one will be much better. My mystery is that right after the download the problem effected any browser used.

Try disabling the following from starting via msconfig Startup and Services tabs.

I'm a little confused with the CCleaner startup list. According to my Startup manager only 14 applications start at startup:

I went through my applications list and uninstalled all the programs I no longer use or need - including the ones you listed. I.E. seems to run much better but this has happened before for short periods of time. If the system reverts back to being slow I'll let you know. I did all this on my OptiPlex 380 not the 780 machine with the same problem. The 780 doesn't have any of the programs uninstalled on the 380 but I'll go down my applications list on that machine also.

Just thought I'd tell you the browsers are back to slow motion. This is really odd. I'll go to some (not all) web-sites and the browser just spins.

Bigger problem - ever since this happened I can not send attachments to my emails of any kind.

I'm at the point where I feel I should save my work and important programs, wipe my drive, and start over.
