Hi guys, this is been a major thorn in my side for over a week now. Sometimes it's worse than others.. but basically my computer's internet connection speed is suddenly and dramatically slower. All of the other computers on my home network are fine. Just this computer. I used to get download speeds between 600-900 Kb/s now if it's a good day I get like 100-200 Kb/s… but sometimes it's so bad I only get 10-30 Kb/s!!! It's so bad and so slow I can't even hardly use the internet… playing online games is not out of the question. I've run several virus scans but can't really find anything. I'm using Windows 7 - 64 bit sp1 and I have a very fast computer with 16GB RAM. I'm on a wireless network, but the other computers on the network are fine. please advise.
Hello, Glitch.

Do you still need help? Are you still experiencing browser slowdowns?

If so, please send me a fresh DDS log. I need to see if any malware has resurfaced since your last thread..
Yeah…

it's still intermittent… sometimes it's not even noticeable… sometimes it's crippling.
I saw your last post in old thread… but when I went back there it was closed…

so I made new thread.. here are the logs

Hello, Glitch.

Thank you for the DDS log. There is no new malware on your system since your last thread; however, there are some items needing attention that were pending when your thread closed. Let's take care of these issues.

Please run the following scans

1. Junkware Removal Tool

Please download Junkware Removal Tool from HERE and save it to your desktop.
  • Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any potential conflicts.
  • Right-mouse click JRT.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • JRT will begin to backup your registry and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, the log JRT.txt is saved on your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next reply.

2. AdwCleaner: Scan

Please download AdwCleaner from HERE.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe. Note: Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin…be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button…a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Glitch, please remember to respond within 3 days to avoid closing this topic.
OK… here is the JRT

PROBLEM SOLVED

I had been suspicious that this was a configuration issue for a while… I had started by trying to fix it from that angle… when nothing helped I though it must be malware.

The problem had been intermittent and was very flickle and last night was crippling… so bad I could harldly load a web page.

I had already tried disconnecting my hamachi and miniport driver and then I was all set to try getting a wired connection to my router….

but then the obvious hit me… if that works its a hardware issue and my wireless network adapter is shot! that would explain why the other

computers on my network weren't effected!

So, I Just swapped out my USB wireless network adapter and BAM - super lightning fast speed back again… plugged the old busted on in there and

I was back to 10-30 KB/sec… swap it for a good one 600+ Kb/sec…

It's sooooo obvious I feel really stupid for not thinking of that earlier. thanks for the help.

PROBLEM SOLVED!
Hello, Glitch.

Very glad to hear you have resolved your speed issue. Reviewing your log, however, there is an item we need to take care of so that it does not cause you any potential headaches in the future. I am also asking that you stay with this topic just a bit longer while we run a couple more scans to be certain that your system is completely clean.

You have uTorrentControl2 Toolbar installed on your computer. This is a Conduit toolbar that collects and stores information about your web browsing habits, then sends this information to Conduit so they can suggest services or provide advertising via the toolbar. uTorrentControl2 Toolbar can attempt to change your home page and search provider. It also has the potential to slow down your system.

1. Uninstall Toolbars from Programs
  • Click Start and select Control Panel.
  • When the Control Panel window opens, click on Uninstall a program found under the Programs category.
  • If you are using the Classic View of the Control Panel, then you would double-click on the Programs and Features icon instead.
  • Look through the list of programs for the one that you would like to uninstall, and then left-click on it once to highlight it.
  • Click on the Uninstall button.
  • When asked if you are sure you want to uninstall, click Yes.
  • The program will uninstall, and when completed you will be back at the list of programs installed on your computer.
  • When finished, close the Programs and Features screen.
2. Uninstall Toolbars from Browsers

If uTorrentControl2 Toolbar appears in any of your browsers, continue as follows:

For Internet Explorer:
  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Click Tools > Manage Add-ons.
  • In the Manage Add-ons window, under Add-on Types (found on left side) highlight Toolbars and Extensions.
  • Under the Show: drop-down menu (found on left side) make sure All add-ons is selected.
  • Highlight the extension (uTorrentControl2 Toolbar) you wish to remove, and select Disable.
  • The Disable add-on window may pop up to warn you that related services and add-ons will also be disabled. Click Disable.
  • Click Close to exit the Manage Add-ons window.
For Firefox:
  • Open Firefox.
  • Click Tools > Add-ons.
  • In the Add-ons window, under Add-on Types select Extensions.
  • Click to highlight the extension (uTorrentControl2 Toolbar) you wish to remove and select Disable. If you want to delete an extension entirely, click Remove.
  • The Disable add-on window may pop up to warn you that related services and add-ons will also be disabled. Click Disable.
  • Exit the Add-ons Manager window, and restart Firefox to complete the process.
For Google Chrome
  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Click the wrench icon at the top right of the browser window.
  • Click Tools > Select Extensions to open the Options tab.
  • Uncheck Enabled to disable the extension (uTorrentControl2 Toolbar), or click Remove to delete it completely.
3. Reset Your Home Page and Default Search Engine

Removing the toolbars may have changed your browser settings (homepage, default search engines). If so, please follow the instructions found HERE.

Please scan your computer with MBAM

I see you already have Malewarebytes Antimalware installed on your computer. Please run a Quick Scan and send me the log results.
