You guys have been helpful to me in the past, and I'm not sure this is the correct place to start a topic.

I downloaded an old DOS game today Wizardry 8 from a site that had no issues with AVAST running.  After downloading I checked the file and it had a malware dll that AVAST stored in the safe chest.  I opened the zip file and the read me text indicated that I shut my antivirus down for 10 minutes while the program ran through setup.

I guess I'm gun-shy about shutting down the antivirus to install the game.

So my question is there a way to install a game in a way that would preclude installing anything that might be damaging or intrusive?  Like setting up an account that would have privileges to only write a specific folder?

Thanks

The file was named Crack\Steam_api.dll
