Up until this time 24 hours ago my laptop was working as expected.

But now I cannot restart the laptop, cannot always shut it down, icons (security ones) that where in the notification area have disappeared, cannot select items from the Control Panel. I have ran sfc /scannow and that came back with 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. '.

There are more things but thats enough to be going on with.

Any ideas?

Sounds to me like malware fo some kind. Go to the Spyware / Malware / Virus Removal forum, read the info there and follow the posted directions. Once you receive a clean bill of health, come back here if you have any additional questions or concerns or it turns out not to be a malware problem.

Please be patient as that is a very busy area. If you do not receive a response in 3 days, post a message here: What To Do If You Have No Response In 3 Days?

Do not reply to your post there as the malware folks look for posts with no replies first.

That's the best thing to do. The person who picks up your thread will tell you what to do next.

Your attachments did not work. Instead of attaching, open them in Notepad then copy and paste into your reply.

Right things have changed again.

After doing searches I have found that the updates KB3011780 and KB3000850 dont like Avast 2015 (especially the KB3000850 one!).

Uninstalled Avast and all is now well. However as the KB3000850 is an optional update, how can I get rid of that and reinstall Avast?

Oh, I can now run FRST64 now but when I tried to copy it into the other thread it dosnt appear that all of it has copied over!
