I have a 98 GB free space on my 250 GB hard drive. Don't know if I'll ever need the storage, but I wouldn't know how to access it if I did. Is it worth trying to merge the unallocated 98 GB with my primary 134 GB partition?

What operating system, XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8?

Post a snapshot of a fullscreen Disk Management:

To open Disk Management, press Windows key+r, type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter or click GO. Make it full screen. Expand the fields as necessary so everything can be seen.

yes should be easy enough to extend your c partition to use all the extra space because the free space is continuous unallocated space next to it on the right.

this link should show you how to do it from within the windows 7 operating system without the need to install any other programs.

just open disk manager and right click on c drive and you should see an extend option, just click on it and extend it to use all free space.

Not trying to  be difficult, but the Extend Volume option is greyed out when I right-click C:. Could that be because Free Space is not the same as an Unallocated Partition? When I right-click the Free Space, I'm given two options, New Simple Volume and Delete Partition.

delete partition then you should be able to extend the c partition/drive.

just joking (sort of.) and glad you sorted it to your satisfaction.

the reason i say sort of joking is because some people think it's safer to have your data files on a separate partition to your operating system files.

personally i don't think so because if your hard drive fails then it doesn't matter where your personal files are located on it, you'll still be sol (might need to look sol up on google urban dictionary. not for kids hears/eyes anyway. ) if you haven't backed them up somewhere else.

so your main objective when running/using a pc is to always keep good backups (not on the same hard drive.) of all/any files you really don't want to lose. ;)

with any luck you won't have any crisis, and still pop in even if just to read, who knows maybe you'll be helping others in time with the things you learn and from your own personal experiences.
