I have recently joined and hope that you can help me. Not savvy as all others on this site. I have an older Dell Vostro 1500 with windows xp home edition. Apparently it crashed and it appears that i lost a driver relative to "bios" to connect to the network. Without being able to connect to the internet on this laptop, I have been trying to access a patch on my other laptop to paste onto my jump drive. Can someone help me with the loss of this driver/drivers?

Hi uofsmom, and welcome to the WTT forum.

Sorry to hear about the problems with your Dell laptop computer.

Its not now recommended  using a Windows XP computer to access the Internet, as support for this operating system has ceased being provided by Microsoft with effect from 8th april 2014. It's not easy therefore to access the Internet safely using Win XP without taking extra ordinary precautions.

However if you are determined to get your Internet working on this computer then as a first step It would be as well to go into "Device Manager" * and check the network adaptors….. there should be 2 separate adapters, one a wired and the other wireless  and they should have no Yellow or Red markers on them   and if you right click on them and click on Properties they should both be shown as " working correctly"

If you need to reinstall the drivers for these network adapters then they can be obtained from here:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukdhs1/product-support/product/vostro-1500/drivers

At this stage it would be most unwise to acess your BIOS settings and its recommended that you keep well away from altering any settings in the BIOS unless specifically advised to do so

Post back if you need any extra information or clarification.
