TBH such compression is beyond my understanding, I know of it, and the reasons for it, but how to do it goes beyond me, BUT, that said, I do know if it's converted to certain formats it will reduce the file size, possibly a lot depending on the original format, I believe .vob are very large compared to say .mp4 or similar, again going into specific formats for the reason of compressing is beyond me, at least to the point of being able to say specifically what format takes the least space (smallest file size), but as .mp4 files are often used on mobile phones it would appear to be a good choice for reducing file size, but others may know better than I in this area.
But if you want to have a try, give Free Studio a try, it's free, and converts pretty much anything to anything lol, the shear volume of the different converters it includes is overwhelming, but if you look through that, just simply look for the conversion you are after, this also includes a burner as well, so you should be able to convert and burn in the same program all being well, hope this helps a bit anyway.
This Free Studio is a good find. It also rips from analogue to digital.
As you said changing formats can also change compression. A lot of my videos are MP4 from my Flip camera. The FlipShare software is not very good that is one reason Cisco sold the camera cheaply and is making no more.
It is a good little camera and if anyone is reading and has one, if it appears non functional, format the card. and it will be like new.
Another trick is to remove the batteries, press power then restart.
I have a good resource with Free Studio.
Thanks again
Peter
