The only user acct with administrative privileges is "Owner" which I get the message shown in post #10 and never even get to the "password" screen. The other users don't have privileges. I got this computer used at a local computer shop so I don't have set-up disks and such, he set it up since it was replacing a desktop that the hard-drive had crashed on.
This looks like it may be fatal to me. I have this computer backed up on Carbonite, I don't know if that could be helpful or not. I may need to take the computer to the computer shop have him wipe it all clean, put the basic programs back on it and re-load my data from Carbonite - or scrap this computer and get my wife a laptop.
Yep I reckon the format and reinstall is worth considering, with a brand new copy of Windows installed and none of the junk that always seems to accumulate on computers after a few years of use, you should have yourself a fast and smooth computer again.
If you have an easily accessible on line back up of all your important stuff then you should be back and up and running again in no time.
Once you get your machine back its worth considering three things:
1 Make yourself a password reset disc
2 then take a disc image and keep at least one copy of it safe offsite on removable media
3 then make a Win 7 repair disc…..
should trouble ever strike again in the future that cannot be solved quickly in a cost effective manner by the usual means you will be able to reimage and be up and running again in less time than it takes to walk the dog…and all at zero cost.

Hi Ekuegiap, I woulddn't worry over much about the "times" you mention for posting etc. (as long as the time clock shown usually in the bottom right corner of your screen shows the correct time and you have set the time zone correctly for your location with any adjustments that you need for daylight saving time etc)
I'm more than 5000 miles away from you as the "crow flies" (and that's a lot of time zones….) for example my local time is GMT or if you prefer "Coordinated Universal Time" other wise known as UTC by the Scientific folks…
If you are a military person then my local time is now (as I post) 09.44 Zulu Regards paws
