Hello I was told by Secunia that there is a problem which the attachment shows after 6 tries. I asked support who directed me to community where there is no attachment . It was hard to articulate the issue. Is Secunia worth running. I left it months ago due to trouble . Does anyone have an opinion that might help regarding the attachment? Thank you Peter. PS I ran it again and it said successful 'pro' . I tried to confirm it by running again and the old problem appeared as I first posted.

The problem in this case is Adobe Flash and Flash frequently causes problems with PSI because PSI uses Flash to create its graphs. It has been a source of frustration for me for some time and for that reason, I don't let PSI update Flash.

I recommend you exit PSI (not just the tray icon, but use Task Manager to close PSI) (or restart your computer without PSI starting with Windows). Then run Adobe FlashPlayer Uninstaller to totally remove all versions of Flash from your system. Then reinstall the latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer. Restart PSI, scan and it "should" turn green.
Hello DI
My frustration led to an error on my part as I did not see the uninstaller at the site.
I have tried Secunia a few of times over the years and for a person with my lack of skills find it causes issues I cannot resolve.
If it is not one thing, it is another.
I am keeping you kind notes in a folder for future reference. For now I had performed a Macrium recovery prior to reading this.
Thank you for lending me support no one else took the time to do. If I use the program again I will have your notes to resort to w/o a recovery.
Also, I'll bet there are many who will benefit from your directions.
Thank you again
Peter

PS I tried to reply to you but was informed the server was having trouble. What a day!

Thank you for lending me support no one else took the time to do.

Not a fair statement. All the helpers on this forums are volunteers with real-world family and work commitments who help out in their "free" time. There is a lot going on today with another mass shooting and more flooding in this country. I just happened to be sitting at my desk when the email notification of your thread came in otherwise, I might not have had a chance to respond until tomorrow.

Also, I just happen to be a PSI user who has experienced Flash issues. If I was not a PSI user or had similar issues, I might not have responded either for I would have had no advise to offer.
You sound mad as though I intended to personally hurt people. Mistakes are just that and are not intentionally meant to hurt someone. I was referring to the PSI community and perhaps did slip -sorry!.. If I misstated, I apologize. That is never my intent. I have received a massive amount of support here and appreciate every bit. We all travel the same road and it is important to be kind to all who walk with us. Sometimes it is not what you say but how you say it. I do try very hard to do that. When I was in Parris Island I was so young and accepted people being acerbic. As I grew older I dismissed it as a lack of social graces and avoided it.
Sorry too. I was not mad - but as you say, it is not always what is said but how it is said. And the problem with forums is we cannot "read" facial expressions and body language.
Hello again, DI This is a reply form Secunia I thought you would be interested in reading. Peter Hello Peter, Thank you for the feedback you have provided below – it was forwarded to me. I am sorry that you have been experiencing problems with the PSI and I admit that we have been neglecting it for a while now while we have been busy finalizing the latest version of CSI – the CSI 7.0. But medio November we’ll do a maintenance release for PSI and although you’ve now uninstalled it, feel free to list me the top-5 issues you faced that eventually led you to uninstalling it and hopefully we will be able to improve. In any case – thanks again for your feedback

feel free to list me the top-5 issues

"5"??? !!! That's ridiculous. I can sure name a bunch, but they want you to name 5? Who wants to do that? It sounds like they want to discourage you from complaining. Then they can say users are not complaining. :( All they need to do is check out their own forums and find dozens.

I don't need 5 reasons to stop using anything. One is good enough for me - if serious enough. It's dependence on Flash is #1 for me. Get rid of that dependence and I will likely be happy, despite all the other problems PSI has. Flash is constantly being updated due to newly discovered security vulnerabilities.

I have been using PSI for many years - but I am getting ready to dump it. I spend more time trying to make PSI happy AFTER making sure all my files are updated than it takes me to ensure all my files are updated.

For example, right now, the main UI says all my programs are up to date but the system tray icon is gray. And it has been that way for the last 1/2 hour. That's ridiculous. I like PSI when it is working properly. I like how it tells me something is out of date. But I don't like how poorly it is at updating status when programs are updated.

With 3.0, you cannot re-scan individual programs like you could with 2.0 and I don't like that.

And it is incredibly slow. Plus, and this is another big one for me, you cannot exit PSI through its own menu. You have to kill it in TM.

There is FileHippo, but it has limitations too. PSI concentrates on security and that's good - when it works. FileHippo relies on a database on their website but their database is limited. Not good.
Here's something else. I just clicked on the option telling PSI not to load with Windows. It immediately popped up a window that says, Please wait! Trying to contact the Secunia servers… Why do that? :(
Well, in fact, I just got so frustrated with it, I have uninstalled it. The system tray would not update (turn green) even after restarting it and rescanning my computer. Virtually every program on our systems keep watch for new updates anyway. This is especially true of Windows itself, and security programs. Most other programs check automatically, or let you manually check for updates. So PSI was redundant. If you are conscientious about keeping Windows and your security programs current, you don't need it. I used it mainly because I installed it on my kids and grandkids computers because they are not as conscientious as me, and I wanted to be familiar with it.
I am glad your rationale led you to dump Secunia - I thought it was me. I used File Hippo Update Checked and it was ok as you say, with limitations. It too had a couple of glitches that caused me to dump it along time ago. It tired to install the wrong version or bit in my pc. I will do as you are doing, and update my own programs or let them update. I may be missing something but how do you update apps like Flash? Do you open the program and check auto update? I also have Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0. Does that update itself or do I do it? It seems the rest of my programs or apps I can update from the metro screen -I think that is the name of the black screen with all the apps on it. When you want to find the cause of trouble, look to the money trail. I think as the Secunia guy wrote, they are spending time with other things right now.
I will try to get my head around these updates for Flash and Shockwave Player - thanks. I got an email from the product manager at PSI/CSI and he is asking what the problem is with Flash. I briefly said there is more than one issue with Secunia. Then, I directed him to this forum by copying the WTT link/target and our thread. as an example as it would take too long to explain to him. If he wants to help he will, and if not we are in the same place. PS I did find the Flash updates but am still looking for the Shockwave updates.
