I need some assistence in downloading the drivers for this old machine, like the system drivers, motherboard drivers, networking, etc. Its such an old computer that its hard to find the drivers, i don't even see it listed on the HP site. This is where i am looking

http://www.official-drivers.com/installer/…amp;seed=hp#top

I need drivers though for a HP pavilion model number a305w

EDIT: Ok i found it

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar…uct=362754#N178

Now i just need to find drivers for the graphic card, cause i know this pc has a graphics card in it. How ever in the device manager nothing is displayed.

Updating is taking forever, my god windows XP is so slow when it comes to these things and also many safe sites are detected as unsecured which is weird. Such as WOT or addblock extensions for firefox.
Ok i got a problem. One of the files under task manager Svchhost is running up 100% CPU at all times when i login to windows, all i have installed so far is drivers and the antivirus, i have not even moved over the other datafiles, but that is a problem, i need to find out what is causing the pc to run up that high. Its causing all of my windows updates, installations, copying files, everything is SLowwww because of that one file running 99% CPU. Svchhost is a normal system file loaded when you install certain applications, i know its not an infection or virus of any kind.

You might have to just wait for it to do what it needs to do.

I think its avast anti security, that software is great, but its to CPU intensive for this computer. As soon as i terminated one of the SVshost files, it was avast updating that stopped. Then the CPU clearly changed on the task manager to avast showing it at like 40-50% just on idle.

I guess ill have to pick another anti virus, maybe free AVG or something?

EDIT: Well apparently its not avast, i uninstalled it and its still on boot up, running at 99% CPU just in idle mode. Do you think this could possible be the case of having windows not updated yet? Belarc advisor says 116 missing security updates cause i have not exactly done the updates yet but i can't in its current condition because the computer is just so bogged down, ill have to reboot into safe mode but this is kind of a shame, i wonder what i installed that would cause this. When i first reformated the machine and started installing drivers, i had no issues, it any where from then and now when i installed certain software programs that caused this problem, i really only installed like java, adobe flash player, Firefox and of course the anti-virus and thats pretty much it.

I called avast and they said that the OS is infected some how and they are trying to tell me that the registry it self has errors, even after i did a full re partition, they claim that a full reformat does not get rid of all errors in the register. I think they are just trying to sell me their services though really.

I could try a system restore.

UPDATE 2: Well i did a system restore and i am really screwed now. Now it won't let me log in unless windows is activated. So now i have to go through all that again and format the drive, this is crazy. I wish these things were so much easier like windows 7. Back to square 1. It is has locked me out again from logging in.
Well im back where i originally started, although this time i created a restore point. So far so good, nothing is bogging down the pc, i am just installing the regular drivers and windows updates right now. EDIT: Do you have any idea why it takes so long for windows XP to update, its been stating "checking for the latest updates on your computer" for the past like 2 hrs now. Also on the bottom tool bar, the % of updates download is 0. Yeah its been a while since ive used XP so i just forget but does normally take this long? I know it does say that their 116 to download accoarding to belarc advisor but im kind of suspicious that its still at 0% downloading. I guess ill just leave it running all night, see what happens.
If you did a reformat of the drive nothing bad is in the registry. As for Windows Updates, it depends on how long it's been since the install of XP from that CD. Any security program you install will want to update and scan the system.
Yeah 165 security patches had to install, so it was really an over night thing. But i finally got a working computer, thanks for all the help :) Now i finally return it to my sister, part of the issues here was that danny, her X bf used a pirated XP antiWPA software crack that was causing all kinds of conflicts with installation of anti virus software and being un able to update. So we remedied that solution right away, i told my sister to purchase a genuine copy of XP so now she won't run into those issues any more. So it looks all good for the time being, that is until april 2014, in which case she might consider an upgrade but with that current CPU and mobo, no way can she handle WIN7. So she should just really considering buying a new pc just outright.
