I need some serous help. This is a very old computer but my sister wants me to fix it by sunday so she can use it for college work and business. She called me she told me that she went to try and go to firefox to go online and she says every page says "this page is blocked for security" now im betting that its mostly viruses and malware for sure, but when i told her over the phone to try and reboot the machine and go into safe mode, it stays on the login screen for all accounts and their is no way to access any of the accounts at all. When i click on the account the message "This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft in order to continue You cannot logon untull you activate windows. Beacuse activation cannot occure in safe mode, you must first restart the computer and login to normal mode in order to activate windows". Here lies the problem. It says the same thing even when booting to safe mode or normal mode. I rebooted in normal mode and safe mode, their is an admin account on their with a password that i do not know because her X boyfriend only knows the pass. She has no windows XP disk either at the moment since he took it. We were fixing to purchase one, but it wouldn't be here in time, i need to some how find some kind of alternative way to get her computer back and running so she can take care of her business and college work. I do not want to let her down. Taking care of the infections is an easy task for me, and doesn't have to be completely void of infections, just enough so she can access the internet, i can use tools and everything to take care of that problem, or back up-format if need be but like i said, no way to login into windows, is their a way around this? Quite simply i am locked into safe mode and can't exit it, if i am able to exit safe mode, i can then log back into windows and work from their. I do have a windows 7 disk, but this machine is very old and probably not capable of handling it.
Jeff, without a Windows XP install CD you are not going to be able to do anything. It will have to match the COA sticker on the computer for type (Home, Pro, Media Center) or you will run into the same activation problem, unless you get a retail version that has it's own install key.

WOW, apparently i have a very deadly maleware on the machine called "Ransomeware" and all of the message i see on the login screen is fake and part of the infection i contacted Microsoft my self and charged me 100 dollars to fix it. But they they figured out they can't fix it because i dont have any windows installation disk, so they refunded me.

I am probably going to move this to the maleware team and i will be getting the XP disk back, but in order to fix this issue, its going to require some serous help from the maleware team. Microsoft says its a newer maleware out that even locks out he command prompt and safe mode.

You're headed in the right direction. The malware folks here are amazing.

Please post a link here to your malware thread when you get it.

Thanks, yeah their have been some times where i had to wait a week before anyone responded, and i realize they are very busy, but i hope they can reply as soon as they can cause i really need to get this machine fixed, so i can give it back to my sister, she needs it for all of her work at her job and her college work. I hope that the virus has not deleted any of her data on the drive, that will just be disastrous, in any case, i have had the computer turned off until the male ware team can answer.
