My laptop types all .............. across fields

The last day or two I've noticed spontaneous endless ……………………………………………… input in search boxes and even in notepad. In fact. in notepad it is possible to observe a pattern of pauses in the endless stream of …………………………………………… there are never any spaces or other characters, but the speed of the endless flow is not uniform. It may be affected by processor activity. I do not currently have a can of air, but I have no evidence that there is anything wrong with the period key. I can work it …………. and stop working it. But I am no longer surprised when I open Google and find myself searching for ……………………………………………… I did SpyBot and Malwarebytes and CCleaner. No change. I will continue to monitor this with note pad handy. I believe when it is doing it in Firefox or anywhere, it will be doing it in notepad as well. I will attempt to confirm that. Any thoughts? I am not familiar with any type of malware where what you have described is a symptom.

Do you have an external keyboard that you could plug in and try?

Do you have another user account on the system that you can use to check if it is the same behaviour (if not create a new user, make it an admin, then use the computer as you would normally) If it occurs on the new user, then it is likely hardware related.

Make certain all your drivers are up to date in device manager.

run FRST and I can eliminate (or find) malware, if it's not malware related we can move this topic to the hardware section and our tech gurus may have a solution for you.
