So I removed, redownloaded, and ran combofix with the same old error. Is it possible to maybe try another route? It seems like we're going in circles here, but that may just be my inexperience showing.

Also, I work really long hours during the week so I usually don't feel like taking the time to close out all programs and disabling internet and virus protection with what little time I have at home at night. So, if it's possible to wait a little longer before closing out this thread, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you,
Andrew

Ok, just to make sure before I uninstall sophos, will I need any sort of product key to reinstall? I downloaded it through my university, of which I am no longer a student, and want to make sure I won't permanently lose it.
Yes; It appears that if I uninstall sophos that I will not be able to redownload since I am no longer a part of the University of Washington. Do you know if performing the steps you gave, then doing a system restore would restore sophos and not any of the problems I had?
Hi keperref ;) If you can not install Sophos, because you do not have the license, you can install another AV product free, on-line you can find many. If you want I can instruct you to download /install one of them :)
Hi Keeperref :)

Which ones would you suggest?

AntiVirus programs:

I want to recommend you download and install one of the following program Antivirus (free)

Microsoft Security Essentials

Avira AntiVir Personal

Avast

Also, I had this show up when I shut down recently. I don't remember ever seeing it before, and haven't really installed anything recently that I can think of.

You have got a minidump file for the event (BSOD)

It should be located at … C:\Windows\Minidump

Please find and post it
I couldn't open the dmp file to paste in the text, and what the tech won't let me upload that type of file either. Do you want me in the meantime to go through with the sophos removal and combofix steps?
Hi Keeperref ;)

You can't open the minidump file, you must attach the file.

Ok Uninstall sophos as described in post 34 and try to run Combofix:

Drag the Old Combofix icon into the trash

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide

Download Combofix from any of the links below but rename it to Again.exe before saving it to your desktop.
Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT- Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
