i am having some problems disabling my touch pad mouse for my laptop, i am currently using a dell xps 15 laptop, the laptop does come with a button that would normally allow me turn it off whenever but when i was getting it fixed because it was running quite slow this button has seemed to stop working. i know there are other ways to disable the touch pad so i went into the control panel, mouse and found that it was there but the option to disable it was not, i could disable the mouse i have plugged in but not my touch pad mouse, i remembered that a touch pad icon pops up in the notifications section on the task bar but that seems to have disappeared as well, i even went to the extent as trying to uninstall the touch pad all together, it made me restart my computer, when it turned back on the touch pad was still working, it is really annoying when i want to play games and things like that as well as when i am typing. if anyone knows how to fix this i would be really appreciative. thanks.

There are other ways to disable devices, and you did not say you had tried the method suggested above, so an alternate method was suggested, but Ztruker is best placed to expand there.

As to your issue, not come across it personally, but the fact the icon is missing now, suggests either it has been removed from start up, or has become corrupted, my hope at this time is that this is what enables the button to disable the pad, simplest way to see what happens is to reinstall the driver, go to the Dell support site, input your tag in the search box to be taken to your products page, then download and reinstall the touchpad driver again, see if that helps.
Hi Gavere
Welcome to the WTT forums.
Rest assured that Ztruker reads all of every post before he offers his expert advice, so there was no need for you to ask the question

did you even read my entire post?

The most likely explanation for the trouble is that you forgot to install, or forgot to ask for all the Dell Drivers to be installed following

getting it fixed because it was running quite slow

For full functionality this must be done in the correct order. If the drivers are not installed or the correct order was not followed then the usual command (Fn+f3) and the Dell hotkey, to turn off the trackpad will not work.

That's okay. I get annoyed from time to time too.

As 8210GUY mentioned, disabling from Device Manager is not the same as doing anything from Control Panel / Mouse, but when I just looked at Device Manager / Mouse I do not see a Disable there either, so my suggestion will not help you, sorry.

Paws is right. Install the touchpad driver then you should be able to disable it or at least turn off Tap to click so it does not cause you grief.

On my HP Laptop, with the Alps Touchpad driver installed, I can disable the Touchpad by right clicking on the Touchpad icon in the System Tray of the Taskbar then click on the Device Setting t6ab then the Disable button. I can also right click on the icon and uncheck Tap to click.
