Hi! My wife's PC is freezing up within 5 mins of startup. I removed the HDD and plugged it in to my PC as a 2nd drive and ran chkdsk on it and came back clean. It's a Gateway and they have the HDD partitioned with Win7 on one and data on the rest. It originally came with Vista and we bought Win7 Home Edition upgrade for it about a yr ago (32 bit). Was working fine until about a week ago. She says she hasn't done anything with it to cause it to do this. She has a 250GB HDD and 2 Gb of RAM. My suspicion is that she doesn't have enough memory to run it anymore, but the problem there is that the RAM is maxed out. Any ideas or other things to try? Thanks for your assistance in advance Taz
Hi,

Please do the following:

Please download DDS from either of these links

and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please download aswMBR to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run it
  • When asked if you want to download Avast's virus definitions please select Yes.
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan
  • On completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well
Cat, Thanks for responding but the situation forced itself. Turns out that the HD was failing so it's been replaced successfully. Thanks for responding however! Taz
