I know you probably hate to see me back again, but my last topic really wasn't solved. Just a short time ago I clicked the Yahoo shortcut icon on my desktop and took almost 3 minutes to get to Yahoo. On the Yahoo homepage I clicked the Facebook link and it took just under 6 minutes to load. In May when you first helped me, things were not as fast as a high-speed connection would be, but everything was much faster than it is now. Other sites are slopw too, most not as slow, although the USPS site is very slow. After 6 hours loading AVPTool, it wouldn't work. ESET wouldn't work this time, although it did in May. Also, back in May I was instructed to use TDSSkiller, Combo-Fix, and ATF Cleaner. Would any of these have helped find why ESET and AVPTool won't work?
Hello again jwr243

We don't mind people coming back to us if they are still concerned.

Although we ran most of the tools that would have shown up malware if there was any, if you would like to have another look we can do that but there are many other reasons for a slow computer besides malware.

AVG is a resource-hog and could be having an effect on the speed,

Also, what type of Internet connection do you have?

The fact that Eset and AVP Tool gave problems is unlikely to be malware-related as AVG ran a full scan.

We'll have another look but if nothing shows up, you might consider one of our other forums to see what could be contributing to the slowness.

Run DDS

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

DDS.scr
DDS.pif

  • disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • when done, DDS.txt will open.
  • after a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • save both reports to your desktop.
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt and Attach.txt reports in your next reply
===================================================

Run aswMBR
  • download aswMBR.exe to your desktop.
  • double click aswMBR.exe to run it
  • if asked, accept the AVAST virus definition download
  • click the "Scan" button to start scan
  • on completion of the scan click Save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply
Please include the following in your next post :

DDS.txt
Attach.txt
aswMBR log

A few days ago I couldn't get online so called my ISP and they confirmed they were having problems and were working to correct them. After several hours the problem was fixed and things seem to be working fairly well. Could the slowness have been caused by whatever the ISP problem was? Before running the scans again, I'll wait a day or two and see if things are still ok. I have a dial-up connection.

Yes, that could well have been the problem. It would make sense because there appears to be nothing on your computer that would cause it.

The Eset and AVP problems were almost certainly due to the fact that you are on a dial-up connection. They might have just "timed-out" If malware was preventing it, AVG would also have been prevented from scanning

OK, thanks for letting me know but please wait only a day or two. :)
