Hi,

 Here are the problems I am experiencing;

Startup is very slow and desktop icons flash several times in the long process.

Firefox is very slow to open web pages and sometimes re-directs me to a porn site page when actually my home page is a local news TV site and shows as that when I look into Firefox options menu.

I have run eset on line scanner, Malwarebytes, and also adwcleaner.

None find any issues.

Please help.

Any improvement?

~~

Follow the instructions in the thread below. Make sure to download the MBAR version linked in it.
The below is a anti-rootkit scan not the standard MBAM.

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/198907-requested-resource-is-in-use-error-unable-to-start-malwarebytes/

delete everything it finds, and then copy/paste the content of the mbar-log-DATE-(TIME).txt log that is located in the MBAR folder here after.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Let's see if there are any startup items we can disable to improve performance.
Go here to download HJT
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/hijackthis/
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
When booting PC all icons on desktop appear, after about 10-12 seconds they all disappear and turn white.
Then each one returns to normal about every 10-12 seconds, one at a time, until they are all back.
I have not been re-directed since we re-installed Firefox.
But boot and opening of web pages is very slow, unchanged since the start of this exercise.
I re-set my router, but that didn’t change speed of boot or page loading.
Maximum CPU, in task manager, is coming from Firefox exe. (there are four of them in my task manager).
When booting PC all icons on desktop appear, after about 10-12 seconds they all disappear and turn white.
Then each one returns to normal about every 10-12 seconds, one at a time, until they are all back.
I think this is related to user profile/desktop loading. I have this problem often on my Windows 7 and I cringe every time I have to reboot my computer for fear I will go through a nightmare fresh boot up. At the time I would have to do a system restore to get a fully functioning computer.
Mine turned out to be a faulting dll for my profile that wouldn't load or couldn't be found.
I have reduced the amount of icons and other items on my desktop to try and provide less for the computer to have to display and load. (Its better but sometimes you never know)
And,  it's possible to be related to the age of the machine.
~~
I'm not seeing anything in your logs that would be related to that but did find issues related to
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\CAL\CALMAIN.exe <–several but,  not seeing where the camera is loading at boot up.
I have not been re-directed since we re-installed Firefox.
Good deal
But boot and opening of web pages is very slow, unchanged since the start of this exercise.
First thoughts on this is background security either checking for authenticity or trying to check for updates,
This could be related to
Antivirus
Web browser
Windows updates
If you could please check
Booting into safe mode with networking, try to very briefly surf the web as a test to see if this lag is still making it's presence known.
Then boot back into normal mode to compare the difference.
I re-set my router, but that didn’t change speed of boot or page loading.
Maximum CPU, in task manager, is coming from Firefox exe. (there are four of them in my task manager).
Yes Firefox has changed,  they think for the better.
Can you open Friefox and check to see if you have the most current version?
Typically, these entries are infrequently used tasks that can be started manually, if necessary.
Removing/disabling these items from statup will help with system resources.
Open HijackThis, Click Do a system scan only, checkmark these. Then close all other windows and browsers except HijackThis and press fix checked.
The below tool instructions have changed slightly since I saved the information on how to use it.
It's really not complicated and is easy to read and follow.
Just take your time.
not sure if this was done correctly, scan disc needed to run, computer rebooted and automatically ran scan. Did not see your instructions after "Go to step 5"
when pc rebooted it rebooted into normal mode not back into tweeking.com
 you say to eliminate desktop icons, when we started i had 10, i now have 59 following your instructions.
boot is slower than when we first began
Step 5 was to create a restore point.
After running/using CHKDSK it's normal for computers to boot slower but this is only temporary.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 4,was to run System File Checker

The step after that was "Go to Repairs and click Open Repairs".
Were you able to follow through with that?

We can remove icons when we're finished.
OK
You went to Repairs, and finished that process and that should had been enough.

Let's remove tools and quarantine folders and try to eliminate some of those icons.
