Hello peeps, I have a ''small'' problem with my computer. Its a new configuration that i use mainly for my work, so it gets quite frustrating when computer freezes. Freezing usually occurs when i watch videos ( youtube , downloaded content , any type/format) and sporadically when i play games ( MassEffect 3 freezes every half an hour/ hour or so ). Now these thing wouldn't be so frustrating if everything else would be good, but it also freezes when i work in Revit or AutoCAD … Anyone has any idea whats this about? Configurations is : Dell U2412M i7 3930k with Noctua D14 Asus p9x79 Asus GTX 560 DCI II Kingston 256GB SSD Kingston HyperX 1333 MHz 4x4GB Fractal Design Define XL Seasonic X - 660 Logitech Wave Mouse and Keyboard Combo What i tried to do: - latest drivers everywhere - used multiple keyboards/mouse (some people had them cause freezing ) - raised slightly voltage on my GPU - checked temps of GPU and CPU ( all under 40 when freezing occurs ) - tried multiple players and multiple video codecs Anyone has any idea what is wrong? Configuration is one week old, so no dust or anything like that, and i doubt its normal behavior
have you got another graphics card to try? or maybe try that one in a different pci-e slot if available, must admit because of when the freezing happens i'm leaning towards either a graphics card problem or a motherboard problem.

i had a similar experience a few years back and i never did get to the bottom of it but i thought there was a problem with my motherboard and it's pci-e bus lanes, the freezing never happened when i used a lower spec'd card in the single pci-e slot but when i put in a high end card it froze all the time, even when it was powered from a separate psu.

and now i've mentioned psu's that could also be the cause of random freezes, when the cpu and gpu are both being stressed they make the psu work a lot harder so if it's only marginally adequate for the pc then under load it may not be able to cope and cause the graphics freeze, but according to this calculator http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine your psu should have plenty of power to cope with the load of that pc.

Its a new configuration

How new? Is it still under warranty? Did it used to work?

Have you cleaned the interior of heat trapping dust and dirt and inspected all the fans to ensure they turn properly?

- raised slightly voltage on my GPU

You should NOT be overclocking while your system is unstable. I strongly recommend you return all (including CPU and motherboard) voltages and timings back to the defaults - at least until this is resolved.
@terry I dont have another card, so that will have to be checked by people at the store where i bought my PC, now i am trying to narrow down the problem so i can explain to them what is exactly wrong ( service people here are a bit on the relaxed side ) About PSU , i am sure this one is capable of powering far more then my configuration , and i had it checked on other PC ( more power hungry then mine ) and everything worked just fine. @ Digerati By new i mean it is one week old ( warranty is minimum 3 years , depending on component ), and i have checked all the fans, dust and everything hardware related just in case. This problem is there from the beginning , so i am trying to solve it myself before i take it back to the store and letting them do it About raising voltage, there are some people that have solved their issues with GTX 560 series with slight raise in voltage , i just tried it and returned it to normal when i saw it was not working. I did not try to overclock it, just raised voltage a bit.
1 week old, don't check anything just take it back and ask for a replacement that one is not fit for the job you bought it for and is a lemon, it is obvious it has problems, if they won't replace it ask for your money back and buy somewhere else,no pc should freeze when being used. i thought you'd built it yourself otherwise i'd have said this in the first post.
Don't tell the store you raised the voltages (overclocked) on the CPU or Card etc. Make sure everything is set to normal as if it is not, it usually voids the warranty.

Unless they ask you. To lie for the purpose deceiving another for personal gain is "fraud" - a serious criminal offense.
I was not advising CrYpToS to lie and I do not like the innuendo that I was Dig. Please read my actual advice again -

I was not advising "tell the store you did not raise the voltages". Now that would be a lie :o
