Hi
My grandkids have an Acer Aspiere computer that requires a video card update, I think…there are many games on Miniclips, etc they cannot play and a message often appears saying…

"Critical Error; your graphics hardware does not provide the minimum required pixal shader version (2.0) or the minimum required vertex shader version (2.0) or the minimum required vertex constance (128). The application will not be able to use 3D functionability. OK will continue application execution, CANCEL will exit."

It is a VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP.

I have tried to update from the Device Manager but it states it is not needed.

Do I require a driver update or is there another issue here?

Thankyou!!
Belinda
Hi Belinda, That graphics, the "VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP". is often fitted to laptop computers and as part of integrated graphics circuits on some desktop computer motherboards and as a rule they do not provide a good platform for gaming with modern games that require up to date specs… That chip will run older games but nothing that requires the specs you mention. It's often possible to add a more powerful graphics card to a suitable desktop computer, however a laptop is not so amenable in most circumstances… :( . If you provide the exact make and model number of your computer we should be able to provide more detailed advice. Regards paws
to me the error sounds like the graphics hardware is to old to run the game, if this is so then no software driver update will be able to fix the problem and you need to buy a newer type graphics card. to be honest tho i've never heard of a VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP. so think it's probably a built in graphics chip and not a dedicated video card, if it's in a laptop then i think you'll find it impossible to do anything except buy a new laptop but if it's built into a desktops motherboard you should be able to buy a dedicated graphics card that will fix your problem but at the moment i'm not even sure if the acer aspire is a laptop or desktop pc, so can you provide the model number then i can do a bit more research on it's specs and see if maybe it's possible/worth upgrading the video graphics card or if maybe it's better to save up for a newer machine. missed your post paws.
