Computer - HP Laptop Pavillion Entertainment PC DV4, 2009
Windows 7, Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) 64 bit
I have been getting this for a while and have been doing system restores to see if that would help, but it continues. I installed BlueScreenView and have already had the BSOD today. I also have problems with overheating. Here is what it reports, and any help is greatly appreciated. I'm attaching it because it won't paste correctly on here.
Please download WhoCrashed (scroll down to Crash Analysis Tool) to your desktop.
1) Click on the file you just downloaded and run it.
2) Put a tick in Accept then click on Next
3) Tick Don't create a start menu folder / click Next
4) Tick Create a Desktop Icon / click on Install / tick Launch Whocrashed / click Finish
5) Click Analyze
It will want to download the Debugger and install it / Yes
WhoCrashed will create report /.scroll down to see it
Copy and paste it into your next reply.
With regard to your Laptop overheating issue, make sure your air intake vents are clear and you are operating your laptop on a flat surface.
Overheating may have something to do with your PC crashing ..or maybe not.
To check your temps you can download Speedfan.
Let us know what they are.
Here are the results. Note that I also did a hardware check and no problems were found. I ran a driver check and none showed up that needed updating.

Conclusion
——————————————————————————–
51 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 15 are included in this report. 3 third party drivers have been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:
atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, ATI Technologies Inc.)
unknown_module_00000000`00000001.sys
unknown
If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.
Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.
Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.
It appears you have a third party video driver that may be the cause of the problems with two Windows drivers.
I think this atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, ATI Technologies Inc.) is an integrated driver, not a video-card driver.
First thing to do is to uninstall the video driver, reboot and let W7 replace it.
To uninstall video driver go to start / right-click / Computer / manage / Device manager /expand display or video adapters / right-cllick what it shows and choose "uninstall". The system will need to re-start.
Now go to this page http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html which will take you to HP Driver and software support. Click on "automatically find your products and solutions" and update what is recommended. A small active-X will need to be installed so make sure you right-click IE and choose "run as administrator".
If you wish to do a manual update from the above HP page, be aware that "More than 300 products contain the term HP Laptop Pavillion Entertainment PC DV4" so you would need to supply you product and/or SKU number (if known).
See how that goes and if it fixes the crashing problem.
If not, run WhoCrashed again and post the new results
Ok, and thanks again for your help.
I did the above and it all went through. Then, crash again…
