Having been sorted out for a virus attack Catbyte has now made me malware free http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?sh…mp;#entry770042
However, now my computer has stopped recognising my Camera which I have been using for a few years with no problems. I have reinstalled from the disc but still cannot get it to work. It is a Pentax Optio 33WR. Catbyte suggested I ask for further help here so I am asking please if anyone can suggest anything else I can do to sort it out? Thank You.
Hi sooty4,
Did you follow these two important basics first?
1) Make sure your camera is not connected to the PC during the installation since the driver needs to be installed first.
2) The camera needs to be turned off before connection and then turned on.
Cheers,
Lee
Your compter "should" recognize that camera for access to memory and copy/paste of picture files even without installing the software.
Couple of other basics to consider.
The camera "will not" be recognized if it is switched to "camera" setting… The setting with which you can take new pictures.
The camera "can" be recognized if it is switched to "review or view" setting… the setting with which you can browse the pictures you've already taken.
It is also possible that USB Controller Drivers are in conflict with regard to the specific USB port into which you are plugging the USB cable from your camera.
This happened to me recently when trying to attach an external HD via the front USB ports of my Desktop.
Plugging into one of the USB ports at the back of the case worked a treat.
If those basics above still don't help, then you may benefit from clearing and freshly installing "all" of your USB Controllers and Ports.
Hello again Sue,
Do you have access to another computer?
Try hooking up your Camera to any other computer.
If Camera accesses successfully using another computer, then the problem is USB port, Controller, or Driver related on this machine.
If Camera is not accessed successfully using another computer, then the problem could be the USB mini-cable, or a setting on the Camera, or a problem with the camera.
Have you re-charged batteries, or replaced the batteries of the Camera recently?
Do the present batteries have enough power to turn on and take new pictures without displaying low-battery alert?
Hi. The camera is working OK. I have full battery power. I have purchased a card reader so am now using that to get the photos from the camera. I will try the camera in another computer or see if I can find another lead as I agree it seems to point to the camera lead being faulty. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks Sue.
