Hey i am just now building a brand new computer for some one. All of the parts are brand new, i bought them all off newegg so their shouldn't be any defected components.

This is the motherboard i bought

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx…N82E16813130574

I also bought a compatible CPU i3 3.2 GHZ. I know for a fact all the parts are compatible other wise they wouldn't fit correctly.

So far i have just got the motherboard installed with the CPU seated and the power connector cables connected into the motherboard. I wanted to try and boot it up to see if it works and it just turns on for about 10 seconds and then turns off. It doesn't even go through the "post" process. I am thinking that possible this can be that i hooked up the power connectors incorrectly, like the HDD led, the PWr switch, and the PWR Led. Or maybe the CPU isn't Seated correctly. But i followed the instructions exactly for the CPU, so im pretty sure that is correct.

In any case, normally when i put together machines, these are the two major things that would cause that kind of a boot up failure. The third reason being the PSU, but that is immpossible because its brand new. I bought a 550 Z3 series CPU so it should have plenty of power. Besides i tried booting it up with all the fans unplugged accept the CPU to minimize the power going through it, but still no such luck. When i seated the CPU, the heat sink came with some strips of tape on the bottom of it, but i also used thermal compound and applaid that to the CPU it self, then i tightened the heat sink down.

Anyways this is hard to explain with out showing a diagram, but this is how i plugged in the connectors. Ok first of all they give you two separate external connectors that you plug into the motherboard it self, and then you plug in all of the connecting wires to that connector on the motherboard. Now if you look on the back of these connecting wires, they all have like a little arrow pointing up. I am pretty sure that means + for all the connectors, so i plugged them in just like that. All of the front side of the connectors as listed below are pointing outwards from the motherboard instead of inwards, naturally thats how its plugged in, in most cases.

The first Front side of connector reads:

HD_led +
HDD LED(arrow on the backside on the positive side of the connector)
HD_led -
RESET SW(arrow on the backside on the negative side of the connector)
Rst_sw -
NOTHING
Rst_sw +

Rsvd_Dnu NOTHING

Backside of the connector reads:

PWR_SW -
PWR SW (arrow on the backside on the positive side of the connector, this makes this connector point outward towards the motherboard, which means looking from the backside you can't see the display.
PWR_SW +

FP PWR/Slp
NOTHING
FP PWR/Slp

Now this entire connector plugs into the motherboard into the "JFP1" slot into the motherboard

The next connector only has two connecting wires that plug into it. They are only 1 pin connectors.

Now for the next connector this is how it reads Front side:

GND - PWR LED +

SLed - NOTHING

PLed - PWR LED -

Or i tried it this way as well but still didn't work.

GND - PWR LED +

SLed - PWR LED -

PLed - NOTHING

Back side of this connector doesn't matter i guess, because thier are no wires to plug into it.

I'll just list what it says on the backside anyways though.

SPK+
BUZ-
BUZ+
SPK-

I am assuming these are for the speaker wires which i didn't have any that came with the motherboard so i guess i don't have to use them.

Anyways i tried taking photo's with my digi cam, but the quality was horrible so thats the best i can do for now. I hope you can help me solve this issue and get this computer booted correctly, so it follows the correct post process and boots up.

maybe you can show me some diagrams on here how exactly it works. I tried looking up videos on youtube but most connectors are different then mine. So its kind of hard to tell.

in any case well im waiting for a reply to this, i am going to try and reseat the CPU and see if that is the problem.
Well i hope i didn't damage the CPU. I noticed when i took it out that some of the thermal past leaked over the side and under the CPU rim. thankfully it didn't get on any of the prongs under it. If i have a damaged CPU the computer won't even boot up right? But anyway what i did was remove the CPU, i took some cleaning solution with a cue tip and cleaned off all of the thermal compound including the tape that was already on the heatsink when i bought it. So i applied another drop on the CPU it self and reseated the CPU, but the problem is still the same. So it has to be the power connectors that aren't plugged in correctly. I also used a tester on the motherboard cause with a connection that you can hook up so you can use tester if you have one which i do. So i tested it and it is getting full current, so the mobo didn't short circuit or anything.
Ok well i figured the problem why it kept shutting down, god i can't believe i was such an idiot. I went through all that trouble and may of damaged the CPU as well. The ram wasn't installed. Well now that i got that installed, i can power it on and it stays on, but it still does not go through the post process. You only need the RAM, CPU, and power cables connected from the PSU and the motherboard cables to get it to post right. You don't have to hook up anything else. My guess is the connectors like i said in the above post are still not properly connected, cause thats how it gets post.
Ok sorry for all the replies, i am just updating you on what i worked on. I guess the post doesn't have beeps on this motherboard. Cause i can't hear nothing. Either that or i didn't install the audio correctly. But in order for the computer to even boot to the bios, the post process should be working, is that correct?? I just finished building the computer, everything is in the case now and i hooked up the video. The motherboard logo screen comes on, it goes to the bios system with no issues, during the boot up process, it also recognizes the HDD, i can also see it inside the bios as well. The temp is bout 40 degree's on idle and i checked it to see if it would go up any higher and it stays bout 40. I could possible try to reseat the CPU again and apply more thermal paste to try and see if i can get that temp down, but 40 should be sufficient. Ok now the only problem is when i boot it up it says "select proper boot procedure, or install boot media, and then press any key to continue" Well i tried putting in the windows disk and it still does not boot windows. So something is wrong with the boot process, i guess. But as i said, it does boot to the system setup screen. So at this point, im stuck.
does it show your disc drive in the bios too? if not check you have it connected correctly, until it is seen in the bios along with your hard drives you won't be able to use it to install your os.
Yeah i found out the problem, i just I didn't have the SATA cable connected properly, some how it got loose. In any case, i hope i have the above motherboard connectors in correctly. I am taking bout the PWR Swt and LED and HDD connectors. I mean will that make a difference in the booting process? Because right now everything seems to be working fine, i have windows 7 installed already and everything is working. How ever i don't want to run into like a shortage in the future or anything because of those dayam motherboard cables being connected improperly. Is that a possibility? Or if their in wrong, it just wont boot period! So far all the LED lights are working as well. I am just worried bout those connectors. BTW the bios says 40, but the MSI program that i installed that came with the motherboard says the temps are only 29. weird.
leds wouldn't light up(wouldn't effect boot up) if they weren't connected the right way and the pc power switch doesn't matter which way round they are connected just as long as they are connected to the correct pins, which of course they must be other wise the pc wouldn't turn on/off when you push the button. so yes everything seems correct, well done on your new build now enjoy it.
