Hi. I have a 404 not found message that comes up when I try to search or access some websites. It also says nginx below. I have cleared browsing history, done a registry fix and run a scan with my Avira and its still there. Can anyone please direct me to a fix or tell me how to remove this error and tell me what may have caused it? Thank You.

It says nginx below what? Can you post a screen shot?

Topic has attachmentsUPLOAD IMAGE - How to upload into your thread

Also, try running IE without any Add-ons, see if the problem still occurs. If not then use Tools / Manage Add-ons to disable them until you find the one causing the problem.

Start IE with no Add-ons: Click Start then Run or press Windows key + r. Type iexplore -extoff and press Enter.

Hi, Sorry to hear of the error
The most likely explanation is that you have picked up some malicious code ( despite the anti virus checks you have performed, you will need to visit the virus and spyware removal forum and have a malware removal expert check out the inner workings of your machine;

Take a look here:
http://forums.whatth...howtopic=106388
follow the directions carefully and accurately, posting your logs (over there in that forum, not here please)
only make the one initial post as the malware removal experts look for topics with a Zero post count.....
Regards

Screen shot above . This happens when I try to go into google and also appears where normally an advert would be on ebay. I am running Firefox because my IE has not been working properly since I changed my security to Avira, in that it will not show the drop downs on ebay or let me use Orange. I have tried but cannot fix it. The 404 error still happens in IE and still with the add-ons disabled. Thanks for your help so far. Sue.

Hi, I cant find your post or logs over in the virus and spyware removal forum.... have you done this yet? Your Nginx (open-source, high-performance HTTP server) underneath your 404 error page usually indicates that you have a trojan or other malicious code on your computer. To have this checked, I suggest you go to the link that I provided in my first post. Regards paws

i'm at the end of my rope, here. i too have this dayam 404 error nginx trojan (i think it might also be called the qhost trojan, but i'm not sure).

in my first try, i downloaded Norton Power Eraser and ran a scan, but i haven't found any specific directions of how to use it other than just running a scan. of course, this didn't work.

then i found a method to use the cmd line program to fix the hosts file. i did this, and magically it worked! i was truly amazed. i was using a different computer because i couldn't work on my infected computer. i went to shut off the other computer and came back and saw that the computer i just fixed got restarted. when i logged back in it said it recoverved from an unexpected error. then when i found out that the trojan was back. i tried the cmd method again and changed the hosts file like i did before, but now that won't even work. i haven't seen anybody else that fixed it and got re-infected 5 minutes later.

i found another "solution" that said that PC Doctor should find it, but after downloading it and running it, it didn't find anything.

i'm incredibly p*ssed off about this, and should i ever find the person that did this, God help them because i'd end up doing something bad and ending up in jail for it! PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP. i'm proficient enough with computers, but i can't seem to find the answer. any help would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks.

by the way, i found out an easy way to test for this trojan. for some reason, the trojan won't do searches for anything in quotations. so if you search for "404 error" and hit enter, it will search and search but with nothing coming up. if you type something before it, like - how to fix "404 error" it will come up with the search results only for the how to fix part. just an FYI for anyone not sure if they've got the trojan.

Hi dryan1976, Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your computer.....and of course welcome to the WTT forums.
As you suspect a virus its best for you to go here:
http://forums.whatth...howtopic=106388
read the directions carefully and post your logs over in the Virus and Spyware removal forum. ( not here is this subforum please as we do not analyse them here)

A trained malware fighter will analyse your logs and draw up a strategy to deal with any infections found, providing you with step by step instructions.,
Please make sure that your initial post contains all the logs and information required...do not make a follow up post until you receive a response as the Malware Team look first for topics with no responses....

Nginx is browser hijacker. If your system is always redirected to Nginx then it indicates that your system is infected by this dangerous browser hijacker. If you want to get rid of Nginx browser hijacker then you need to perform some manual steps which is advised below:

Hi jamespdavid001, Welcome to the WTT forum. I noticed that you are responding to a post that is 4 months old, and also that you are providing advice for the removal of malware whilst unaccredited to do so, here at WTT. It has been necessary to remove the malware removal advice that you have provided, and your post has been edited accordingly. If you are an expert malware fighter accredited at other well known virus removal sites, then you will be welcomed here.....but will still need need to follow the procedure outlined above, before being able to provide malware removal advice at whatthetech.com In the same way if you are prepared to commit the time and effort needed to train to become a member of our volunteer malware removal team, so that you can help folks on our forum with their malware issues, then you will need to apply to the Classroom and follow the link given above.
