Hmm… QTP belongs to MS Word Installation process?? Never heard of it. But as it seems you're installing program "Quick test professional" created or owned by Mercury. Its a downloadable program it will not give you windows insert disc message. If you will be using something that is not installed by common installation (tho i doubt it) it will let you download while you're in the program or give you link from where you have to download the feature that you need. Most of the programs when you got common features installed just wont show or let you even try to use other actions that may be processed by some feature that you don't have and so you wont even know about it. If i take MS Word for example any feature that was on CD that i didn't installed but i try to use it will prompt me insert disc message , but it wont even show features that is not common to ms word like advanced grammar check on Lithuanian language or something like that. (OK checks not only CD if you got internet it will check for features online and will give you insert disc message if found some feature that you need)

Exactly, this is the issue. How do I know that this particular feature is not installed so that I try to use that feature and windows will give me this prompt to insert the disc?

I am asking so as this has not happened to me ever and I always install using option 1. Is this happened to someone else?

Why are you so concerned with this? Do you have the original disks?

It has never happened to you because you have not needed the unique features not installed. What's the big deal?

If you are that worried about it, run the install routine again. It will run you through the prompts again only this time, choose the custom option. It will walk you through and you will be able to see what is pre-selected (the defaults) and you can see what is not installed. If they are something you just absolutely need hogging up your disk space, install them. Otherwise, wait until (if) you need them.
