I just built a beast of a machine and i was thinking about buying a sony 32 inch 720p hd tv, but i wanted to display my pc games in full high res, i wanted to know if i can display full res as high as my video card can go on a 720p tv? will there be a diff if i buy a 1080p instead of a 720p?
720p native res is usually 1366x768 and 1080p is 1920x1080 now those are what you want to set your pc's screen resolution to for best picture quality, ie. pixel to pixel output.
i believe if you use the hdmi connection to the tv then those are the max size you can set the video graphics card to anyway, but if you use the vga connection(if the tv has one) then you can set the screen size to whatever the max is the card can output, you'll lose picture quality but the screen space will look bigger on the tv, ie. more desktop space with smaller icons, the tv is still only using it's max native resolution to display the picture(1366x768), but the tv(graphics card) is scaling the desktop size you've set on the pc into the tv's native max screen resolution picture size before displaying it..
