I wasn't sure which forum to put this in so I plumped for this one. I'm running Windows XP Media edition, Service Pack 2. Over some time now I've been getting text document icons appearing on my desktop. They all start hs_err_pid and then continue with numbers. I don't know why I'm getting them. Can I just delete them? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Hi ,They sound like Java debug files…..
Have you updated your Java to the latest version and uninstalled all the older versions?
they should be Ok to delete but to be safe put them in your Recycle Bin for a month (and don't empty it or allow anything to be removed from it for a month,,,,if after using the machine for a month with no problems you can permanently delete them and you should be OK.
Here's the link for the latest Java

Thanks for the prompt reply, paws. Have put the documents in the recycle bin. Nothing seems to be wrong with my computer, I was just annoyed they kept appearing. Have just installed the latest Java. How would I go about uninstalling all the older versions?
Ok , fingers crossed…..that all will continue to work well with the "desktop" files files safely in the Recycle Bin. In XP go to Control Panel>Add and Remove Programs Look for anything called Java or Java Run Time Environment and it can be uninstalled (apart from the latest one that is Java TM V6 update 26 Regards paws
