Hello, I travel a lot and just purchased a netbook because of it's size. I need it to view emails , most files will be kept on a flash drive. I mainly have it for watching movies on netflix during my downtime in the hotels. To make a long story short, I want to get rid of all the background junk I don't need. I purchased it at best buy and It has some best buy app or something downloading updates. I don't need the norton pop up trying to sell me some antivirus. anyone who could help me unload the un needed stuff i'd greatly appreciate. thanks just sara
Hi Just Sara,

let's see what programs are on your PC and what is in your startup menu.

Download and install CCleaner from the following link: CCleaner - Standard

During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.

Click on Tools (ICON) and Select the following BUTTONS to create two (2) text files:

* Uninstall > Save to text file (install) – bottom right corner of app window
* Startup > Save to text file (startup)

Locate and open each saved file in the ‘Documents’ FOLDER:

* Copy and paste the contents of each file into your next post (2 files).

Cheers,
Lee

Download and install Revo Uninstaller (Freeware version). Make sure you download the free version, not the paid for version.

Interface is pretty straight forward.
1) Right click on the program you want to get rid of and select Uninstall. Click Yes when asked.
2) Select Advanced and click on Next.
3) Click OK if asked are you sure you want to remove it.
4) The normal uninstaller will run if there is one, click Next when it completes, otherwise Click Next.
5) Revo will then scan for leftover information in the Registry and on the hard drive, click Next.
6) If there are leftover registry entries, review them. To get rid all of the Bolded entries, click the Select button. Otherwise, go through the list and check only the ones you want deleted. Click the Delete button. When done, click Next.
7) Any left over files on the hard drive will be listed. Click on Select All then Delete to get rid of them. If any can not be deleted, you will have to reboot once Revo ends, then they will be deleted.
Click the Finish button.
———————————————————————————–
Use Revo to unintall anything beside Nortons.
———————————————————————————–
All this can be removed.

Download this Nortons removal tool (do not try to remove Nortons with "add and Remove Programs").

Replace Nortons with MSE

See how you go.

Cheers,
Lee

PS Edit: Defrag. your PC when you finish.
Hi again, I have a few questions I won't to be sure I have this right before I go on. Your first step in your previous post says right click on any programs I want to get rid of. I'm not sure what programs are needed. Can all of them be removed if I wanted? Not that I want to I'd like to keep some,, just asking. You have a list later in your reply, Are those the one's I should remove? there is a best buy pc app and a bing bar i'd like to rid myself of if possible and safe to do so. thanks just sara
I would start by removing the programs I have listed.

If you really want to remove some more programs you don't use you can, but leave the realteck drivers and any other realteck entries. Personally, I can see no great advantage in removing much more than I've listed in my earlier post and here below.

————————————————————————————————————-
Microsoft Office 2010 Microsoft Corporation 5/11/2011 6.31 MB 14.0.4763.1000 (if you have no use for it).
Microsoft Silverlight Microsoft Corporation 4/18/2011 20.4 MB 4.0.50401.0 (not needed).
Do not remove any other Microsoft software I have not mentioned for uninstall
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver Synaptics Incorporated 5/12/2011 46.4 MB 15.1.18.0 (touchpad enhancement controls are not really needed).
————————————————————————————————————–

When you have finished uninstalling and have then defraged your PC, you could post another startup list (only) and we can disable what does not need to be there.

there is a best buy pc app and a bing bar i'd like to rid myself of if possible and safe to do so.

The best buy PC app. can be removed but if your talking about the Bing address bar in IE8 (Internet Explorer), a registry hack is required, so I would leave it alone.
However, I can tell you how to do it if it really bothers you. That would mean backing-up and then altering your OS registry. Serious business.

Cheers,
Lee
