I have a trial version of Norton Antivirus on my windows 7 and I need to remove it completely so that I can install a kaspersky antivirus. I try uninstall programs in control panel or uninstalled it from start menu (Norton folder), but apparently some files still remain because when I try to install kaspersky it detects the existance of Norton.
Hi and welcome to the WTT forums.
Sorry to hear of the problems with the uninstallation.
This does happen from time to time especially if the Norton product was not deactivated fully prior to its uninstallation and also if a reboot was not performed afterwards and prior to the installation of the new AV.
Here's a good way to resolve the issue:
1 Go to this link
http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.j…EN&ln=en_US
2 Read the notes and then Download the uninstall tool and save it to your desktop.
3 Make sure you have no other active windows open, then run the uninstall tool
4 Leave the machine alone until the uninstall has finished.
5 When its finished close down your computer (a full shutdown not a restart or a sleep/hibernate etc)
6 Wait for 30 seconds with a blank black screen
7 Restart your computer
8 Wait 5 minutes (by the clock…not a second earlier!)
9 Intall your chosen anti virus product
Let us know if this does the trick for you

And also because Norton/Symantec products have a long and very poor history of refusing to uninstall totally. They make good security stuff, but they seem to refuse to admit that anyone would ever want to uninstall their products. This alone is reason many avoid their products.

Uninstalling security programs in Safe Mode often helps - though that option is too late now in this case.

The Norton Removal Tool should do the trick. If not, you will need to look in Task Manager to see what Norton/Symantec program/service is running that Kaspersky is detecting.

good on you getting kaspersky - it's the best!

But Avira and Microsoft essentials are both free and as good as Kaspersky any day. Avira is even better than Kaspersky IMHO B)
