unknown malware, mcafee disabled, cursor redirected

I was typing an email into gmail with firefox and the cursor kept moving out of the email and the window kept losing focus.
2. same thing happened in yahoo mail
3. same thing happened with with both mails in ie
4. tried to run mcafee and it opened with a blank window (white). I had to close it using the task manager.
5. downloaded the mcafee virtual technician a few times to try to fix mcafee. Virtual technician said there were 2 missing or corrupt COM components and indicated they could be fixed. ran the technician which said they were fixed but mcafee was still a white window.
6. somewhere along the way I downloaded avg and ran a scan which didn't find anything.
7. also ran spybot which cleaned out a lot of cookies and seemed to identfy two other (longstanding) issues that it said it could fix when I rebooted but didn't turn up anything on the reboot.
Now my computer seems extra slow and I have notice a couple of shadow windows trying to pop up.
