Let me set the scene, I have a Vaio PCV-RS630G, Windows XP SP3, P4, 2G RAM, was running a WRT54GS with SpeedBooster ver. 6, removed it and installed a Linksys/Cisco E3000 N+ Dual Band. The Vaio was working fine, a HP with Vista was woking great, another HP PC was working fine with XP SP3 also. After bringing up the online Linksys window it stated an update was available, clicked on ok, clicked next per the instructions in the window. It locked up and none of the computers would work. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, will only get to 25% and stop. Get a statement that this computer (the Vaio) could not be configured for wireless. Other attempts said installation failed, installation could not complete, etc. I called Linksys Tech help, he tried to check things out and was going to have me do a manual setup. But, when we tried to put the ip addy (192…..) it could not find the server and did not recognize the address. We switched the router to two other PC's, an XP and Win 7 but got the same results. The ip addy wouldn't work on the other two computers either. The Linksys tech had me do a hard reset on the router and try everything again. No joy. He wanted to try and set up the router on the lap top, but I couldn't get to that one at that time so got a case # and terminated the call. Do you think the router got fried with that update that we probably didn't need yet? Is there a way to fix this brand new router, or will we be better off taking it back and exchanging it? Thanks,
brand new so probably easier/better to just take it back and say it doesn't work and get a replacement.
