I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop and since 5 days i have some problems. when i try to login live messenger , sometimes an autocad file, a set up file etc. it freezes. Before it freezes i see the hard disk light stays constant and when hdd light disappears it freezes. However sometimes it makes a scratching sound like we heard years ago when we were connecting internet by phone line. Is it a hard disk problem or what ? When my laptop freezes i turn off it from power button .As i turn it on again and let it to do disk checking , performs 1st stage without any problem but on 2nd stage(verifing indexes) it can not complete ( stops at %27 ). Checking hdd can not be completed.
When i surf on internet it seems okay. In Malware Forum a forum god told me to download and set up SP3 i couldnt even start set up , clicking on icon twice and it freezes again …
I ll be appreciated to be assisted by any of you. Looking forward to hear an advice or sollution. Thanks .

Sorry to hear about your problems.
Please Help us help you. We still need some additional information in order to best know how to help you.
First thing if you can do this -But for now I would advise you to back up all important data that you can before you have a total failure of your operating system. because it almost soulds like a failing hard drive. This should be the priority at this stage. The drive may or may not be on the way out, it could go at any time, so get the files first, then investigate with further.
Second thing - could you provide the link from the Malware Section you were in that sent you here.
Please follow though with the rest below.
1. Please indicate Desktop or Laptop, Brand and Model
2. How Much Memory you have.
3. What Current Operating system you have? And what is the current Version SP1, SP2 or SP3 ?
4. Any new "stuff" added? Software or hardware upgrades.
5. What was running on the machine and how was it running when the problems first appeared?

Hi mate, thanks for your interest. I could not be online coz my computer was at service in this period. it was blocked and each time i start it , before i see desktop it was restarting itself. I took it to service and they said my hard disk is dead. They mounted new one. Now just i m looking for a professional shop to save some important files remained in my dead hard disk. Actually so important files for me and my company.

NP, was glad to help, I kinda supected it was but Question I have to ask the place that installed your new drive, Why could they not get ahold of your old files, providing that they could read the old drive. They should have something like this below or know how to do such thing.
