If you are using Windows 7 and have folders with lots of pictures or movies or subfolderswith them, take a look at this article: Stop/Prevent Windows 7 From Deleting Thumbnail Cache. I tried it and it does make a difference. No idea what the long term impact may be but for now it looks pretty good.

That's a weired thing with W7. It deletes and then rebuilds a folder's cache every time it is opened. What for?
Takes forever in my photo and music folders, but I've never lost anything though …yet.
Another main annoyance, is why can't W7 remember page window positions and size like XP does?
A great OS for all sorts of reasons, but roll on Vista Service Pack II (W8?) Maybe 2012?
