Is this legit? Usually the Java update box says what version and update it is, this has nothing. I clicked on the "More information" link and nothing came up.

Hi JGaryN,
a useful way of proceding if you have doubts about the Java is to ignore the Pop up and check that you have the latest version of Java…. (its now V6 update 22) ( take a look in Add and Remove programs via Control Panel as well!)
If you haven't then go direct to the Java site and install it from there:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
This is always a safer way of proceding than responding to a pop up….. however it does look Ok at first sight (but you know how clever the bad guys are nowadays!)
Don't forget you only need the latest version of Java, (any older, more vulnerable versions, can, and should be be uninstalled)
I couldn't help noticing that you have a shortcut to AVG free 8.5 on your desktop….. there could be a lot of reasons for this…maybe you are using this machine as a "development box" and comparing the old outdated AVG free 8.5 with the latest Version …AVG free 2011…. and if so this is fine but if by any chance you are still relying on AVG free V 8.5 to provide you with your anti virus protection, then it might be wise to consider using the latest version..( if you want to stick with AVG) available from here: http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-free-antivirus
its the download button to the LEFT of the "110 million Trust AVG" that you need to consider clicking on..the others are for the paid for or trial versions.
