Had same problem a while back with I-tunes and quicktime. I have tried to uninstall both with ADD/REMOVE programs and Revo Unistaller and get the same message. "feature you are trying to use is on a network source that is unavailable" and "find an alternate path to the folder containing installation package 'QuickTime.msi' " Also tried just outright downloading Quicktime in hopes that it might overwrite the old program but that didn't work. You guys got me through it last time, but I don't remember what I had to do. As always your help is immensely appreciated. thanks

How do I proceed with Reflect? Not entirely sure what I should back up. There is a section in bold black letters the apparently contain the three sub-sections under it. It seems to be alot of GB. Do I backup the entire file or portions of it? If so I'll need to get a flash drive for it. I'm only asking because I backed up the registry last time with ERUNT but I don't remember making a complete backup like this. If I need to do this I'm all for it but I'm in unfamiliar territory. Thanks
Hi hx35543 :wavey:

I searched for your old thread and I found it here.

Maybe if you follow the same directions, you may have the same outcome.

If you have any problems please let us know.

The directions that I have supplied to you in my post above, is to assist in removing the apple products in the correct order that you wont have this problem. ;)

Jkc73 :)
That seemed to have no affect. I followed the instructions from the old post (thank you for the trouble of finding it). Went to program files and could not remove all of quicktime. Then, the Windows cleanup utility is no longer available from the link in the post. So, that didn't work. Also tried your directions again. Still won't allow me to remove iTunes (first in the order you gave me).

Here is a Notice from Microsoft as to why they have removed the tool from the Microsoft Download Center.

This article previously contained a link to the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe). If you were directed to this article to solve a problem installing a product other than Microsoft Office, please contact your software manufacturer for installation support on the product. Or, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for steps to troubleshoot uninstallation issues with products that use Windows Installer:
2438651 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651/ ) How to troubleshoot problems that may occur when you install, uninstall, or upgrade a program on a Windows-based computer

While the Windows Installer Cleanup utility resolved some installation problems, it sometimes damaged other components installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center. The Fix it Solutions in this article provide the ability to fully remove Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 suites without damaging other Windows components.

Here is a link to the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility if you wanted to still pursue that avenue.

I do NOT recommend this avenue if you have Microsoft Office 2007 installed.(due to conflicts)see here

Please follow these directions before doing anything else.

Please let us know if you have any questions. :)

Alright. Backed up with both system restore and ERUNT. Ran cleanup utility on quicktime. Searched files and folders and found one file still remaining: C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Setup Files\RdrBig\ENU_\Data1.cab Haven't gone any further as this file won't let me delete it. Open files, copy or extract are my only options. Thanks
I was able to remove quicktime except for that file. Went back to iTunes for an install and was unsuccessful. QuikTime was able to install but iTunes shut me down because the new program could not remove the the old one. Used windows cleanup and removed iTunes and went down your list to remove all components of iTunes and QuickTime. Went a little too far. Ended up losing internet access and PC wasn't acting right. Used restore point and nothing really happend. Restored registry and was back online and back to square one. I would like to follow your guide to remove all the apple components but some of the programs won't let me uninstall them with the Windows cleanup utility. I know that's not the best way but it's the only way some of them would come out. Need your help. Thanks.
Hi hx35543 :wavey:

C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Setup Files\RdrBig\ENU_\Data1.cab

You can ignore this file it is not related, and is part of a separate program that you may need.

Removing any other files with Windows Installer Cleanup utility is not advised, most programs can, and should be uninstalled using the add/remove programs in Control Panel.

Remember, delete manually all the Apple and iTunes directories you find under C:/Program Files
You may wish to back up separately the content, like songs and any other media that you have stored.

Let us know how that goes.

Please ignore my reply above, I was a bit slow posting it, due to late alterations.

I will see what I can do.
Alright, check this out. I used the uninstaller utility to remove both QuickTime and iTunes and then backed up the registry again (thought it might be useful), rebooted, then went to iTunes and downloaded iTunes 10. It seems to have loaded just fine. I still don't trust it because I couldn't remove everything like you advised me to do. Also I don't really know why it went haywire in the first place. Now, in Add/Remove Programs, there are duplicate program listings for 3 of the apple programs: Apple software update, Apple mobil device support, and Bonjour. Not sure why. And the first listing of each has less MB than the second listing. Might this have bearing on why it went on the fritz in the first place? And thanks for responding so quickly. On a seperate note, should I just leave it alone as iTunes seems to be fuctioning?

There's a few other things to try….

Remembering, if it ain't broke..don't fix it.

First you need to clean all the temp files. The MSI installer will leave files in the temp files and sometimes will reference those first, getting incorrect install info.

Before attempting this, backup the registry with Erunt, and set a System Restore Point

Install Ccleaner
Start CCleaner and uncheck everything except temp files in the System section. Click on analyze. After a few seconds it should list all the temp file locations. Click on run cleaner.

Download the most current Windows installer (for XP only)WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe

Next you could try to uninstall and reinstall QuickTime and iTunes, etc following this post

————————————————————————-
However, if everything is working fine, if you can run the itunes update, functions of itunes and quicktime..etc with no errors, I would be tempted to leave it.

You also could check to see if all the required programs/services that you need are starting up at boot, this depends on whether or not you actually have them set to start at boot.
To do this using msconfig.
click Start > run… type msconfig in to the Open: box, hit Enter
click on the StartUps tab. (this will show which items are starting at boot)
click on the Services tab (this will show all services and the status)
here is what you will be looking for, please list the ones you find and there status

  • iTunes
  • QuickTime
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Keeping regular back ups is a good idea.
