8cats,

That is very interesting. You say you didn't have the computer connected to the router… yet all the ping tests were successful except for youtube.

Let's bet a big log.

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Download the following file scan.txt to your Desktop. Click here to download it. You may need to right click on it and select "Save"
  • Double click inside the Custom Scan box at the bottom
  • A window will appear saying "Click Ok to load a custom scan from a file or Cancel to cancel"
  • Click the Ok button and navigate to the file scan.txt which we just saved to your desktop
  • Select scan.txt and click Open. Writing will now appear under the Custom Scan box
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time and post them in your topic
Hi TomK, Well I think the Pings worked because the cable connection is good when the computer is hard wired to the Cable box. My real problem is that the router will not give me an Internet session, so any scans I run that require the Internet or scan the NIC card connection will not work. The computer keeps giving me the message that the cable is not plugged into the NIC card when I plug the modem into the computer. I just read the directions on Line for setting up a router with Cablevision. If I can't connect to the Internet through the router and the cable box works fine, it recommends contacting them. I think I will try that tomorrow. I may have to enter ISP information to get the router going again. If they can't get it connected, then the router is probably broken. If they can't help me, I'll try the last scan you suggested. Thank you.
Actually, I re-read the directions and it says to contact the ISP if the cable box doesn't work, NOT if the router doesn't work. I'm going to try following the steps they give, maybe it's the timing of plugging in the router, resetting and restarting the computer that I'm not doing properly. I'll do the steps methodically tomorrow and let you know if it works.
The router has to be broken. I followed hookup directions to the letter and got nothing. I bought a new one at Best Buy over the weekend. I didn't hook it up yet. The Best Buy Geeks told me sometimes they just burn out. Thank you for all your help. If my new router doesn't work, I may be back…….
